ZZ Ward, a bluesy songstress that has found herself in the realm of hip-hop before, has now teamed up with Compton’s Kendrick Lamar for her newest single, “Cryin’ Wolf”. Her voice and backing instrumentation have a southern twang to it, something that wouldn’t necessarily be a natural fit for Lamar. But as we are quickly learning, Kendrick is held by no boundaries, as he sweeps in to complement this promising singer’s catchy tune with yet another valuable verse. And once you understand ZZ Ward’s background, which boasts a stellar hip-hop-covering Eleven Roses mixtape, you will understand why this collaboration makes so much sense.
Of course, Kendrick Lamar has an album to worry about of his own this month. But ZZ Ward’s Til The Casket Drops is due out a week before good kid, m.A.A.d city on Oct. 22. [via]
