Time to add another late pass to the file, folks. I somehow missed the release of this absolutely fantastic EP from Zilla Rocca, who you might know as one half of the 5 O’Clock Shadowboxers. The Philly spitter’s catalog has grown considerably since the Shadowboxers released The Slow Twilight almost two years ago. Whoa, two years? Shit. Anyway, Zilla’s latest project, the Bad Weather Classic EP, dropped this past February and I foolishly let it slip under my radar. Thankfully, some kind soul tweeted about it last week and knowing the players involved, it caught my attention. Everything about this project is just great, from the gorgeous artwork to Zilla’s chilling, urgent rhymes to the icy production. He handles a pair of the beats on here while Face-One and Small Professor supply the rest. It might be getting warmer out lately — something we’re all celebrating — but forget about the heat for a little while and embrace the harsh winter cold heard throughout the EP.
