Last year, Stussy, Teenage Engineering and Low End Theory held a series called Make Beats. It was a contest in search of the next great beat maker. The winner was 16-year-old producer Zack Sekoff, who is now prepared to drop his debut EP, Ancestor’s. Sporting a snazzy feature from the wondrous Thundercat, this five-song project is a fine example of what this young star is working with. In line with just about all the strong values the West Coast beat scene has been pushing for years now, Sekoff certainly has a bright future ahead of him. Give the Ancestor’s EP a spin below and let us know how you feel about this up-and-comer. [via]

I like all of it. The first track that you think sounds young is the track that Stussy picked out of 2000…just sayin’
yeaaa that sample was kind of annoying
That track’s okay, I couldn’t get past the lagging Common “uh uh” sample though, shit was annoying to me.
I can see that. I’m really in love the joint with Thundercat.
Technically, he has skill and talent, but the music sounds “young”, like he’s still trying to find his voice. Tracks 3 and 4 show the most promise, while I thing the first two tunes sound like they didn’t make the cut on Lotus’ Los Angeles album. Overall, he will be one to watch.
