We love bringing you the best of new music discovery, but every now and then we also get to shed some light on new products that make for a better listening experience. Today we have the opportunity of talking about a lovely new listening instrument, the Sennheiser Momentum On-Ear headphones. While the rat race for headphone market share is seemingly dominated by Beats By Dre, there has been some room left for perfectionists like Sennheiser to swoop in and snag a healthy chunk of consumers who focus more on sound and product quality than brand recognition.
That is where the Momentum On-Ear headphones come in. Right out of the box, they remind me of the smell of a brand new car. Seriously. And the headphones themselves are absolutely beautiful. The suede-like Alcantara® that lines the earpads is some of the smoothest material I have ever felt, and the stainless steel makes these headphones feel more secure and durable than its competitors. Not to mention the stylish and sensible packaging.
After gushing over the general appearance of the Momentum headphones, I had to plug them into my computer to see what they were capable of. And, like any other listening device, I put them through a gauntlet of different styles and ranges to make sure they could handle my eclectic taste. Sure enough, they did a fine job holding up to everything from bass-heavy hip-hop to NPR podcasts. What stood out the most to me while listening through the Momentum On-Ears was Sennheiser’s understanding of balance. While certain brands tend to focus heavily on bass and low-end sound, Sennheiser seems to have a steady grasp on the full sonic range. And it shows especially while listening to tunes that rely heavily on mixing.
Coming from someone who has tried just about every brand of on-ear headphones, Sennheiser is a welcome addition to the space. While previous efforts might have left some room for improvement in the realm of style, Momentum’s On-Ear collection are a vast improvement in that regard. And by sticking to the brand’s attention to sonic detail, these cans are a highly recommended purchase for anyone looking for a sleek and stylish way to listen to music on the go.
To make matters more exciting, we have teamed up with the good folks Sennheiser to give away a brand new pair of black Momentum On-Ear headphones. Entering is simple, and you can do so up until Sunday, Sept. 22 through the widget below. Good luck!
