Potholes favorite Paul White returns with a new visual for “Where You Gonna Go?” taken from his anticipated LP, Shaker Notes, which is slated for a Sept. 23 release. The single, which dropped the first week of August, followed “Honey Cats,” a brooding song fit for a midwestern, ’70s-era smoking lounge. Director RUFFMERCY helms White’s latest, bringing a world of animated color to a track far more loose and light than its darker predecessor.
The visual is a work of masked simplicity, as incessantly moving lightings and patterns move around the dancing head of White himself. In effect, the creative pairing yields a startlingly accurate picture of how we perceive any and all forms of music—wispy hues matching the instrumentation that has us nodding along. Think of this video as a better, personalized take on the iTunes Visualizer.
Watch “Where You Gonna Go?” below and preorder White’s aforementioned, forthcoming album on iTunes. If this record even comes close to approaching his 2013 album, Watch The Ants, it will be worth the purchase.
