After completing a fantastic performance on SNL last night with John Mayer, which you can view below, Frank Ocean liberates the visuals for Channel Orange cut “Pyramids”. First, let’s take a look at the Saturday Night Live set, which featured “Thinking About You” and the better second half of “Pyramids”. John Mayer shreds the guitar on the gut-wrenching tracks, as Ocean’s dark tones make this the comedy show’s most emotional performance to date.
Now, let’s make a move to the video for “Pyramids”, which acts more like a short film for the rather lengthy single. The two sections of this track make for wonderfully contrasting parts, filled with beautiful imagery and deep symbolism. Much of the video finds itself in a strip club, just so you are aware. But it serves much more of a purpose than the typical booty-shaking rap video. The ending is stunning, as Frank Ocean disappears into the desert with a pyramid standing in the distance. Frank Ocean was already in contention for album of the year in Channel Orange, and now he might just take the cake for best music video as well.
