Watch: Childish Gambino’s Smooth New Video For “Sober”

childish gambinoChildish Gambino‘s “Sober” made our Best Songs of 2014 staff picks. The pure-pop, synth-laden and catchy song is definitely a highlight of the past year. And it also shows the growth of Gambino, not just as a rapper, but also as a singer. His new video for “Sober”, off his Kauai EP, is directed by Hiro Murai, who directed the brilliant “Never Catch Me” video for Flying Lotus.

In the latest visuals, Gambino’s dancing in an empty diner to get the attention of the girl waiting for her food order. His dancing starts off as creepy, including his facial expressions, but eventually gets the girls’ attention and a laugh. It’s a simple concept which is slightly reminiscent of Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel” video and it works well here.
