After listening to a number of Chet Faker performances, it is hard to deny his stylistic resemblance to Citizen Cope. They both have incredible crossover appeal, as members of the hip-hop community have already taken chops at both of their catalog. But Faker seems to be slightly more tuned to the underground, as he recently dropped a beautiful cover of Burial’s “Archangel“, and is now taking to Blackstreet’s classic “No Diggity”. The live cover is blues-driven, as Chet takes command with doleful vocal delivery and a backing band that pulls together a killer instrumental breakdown at the end. I’d have to say this is another win for Faker, as we cross our fingers for some more new material in 2013.
