It’s almost like 9th Wonder’s career catapulted after he completed the song “Threat” over a decade ago. The year was 2003 and Jay-Z assembled a team of super-producers, from Timbaland to Kanye West, for the Black Album. And after constant nags from ?uestlove and Young Guru, Hov finally gave 9th Wonder a shot. He made his way up to Baseline Studios in New York City, impressed the Roc leader with a R. Kelly sample Jay supplied and the rest is, as they say, history.
After a legendary run with Little Brother, collaborative albums with Murs, Buckshot, Sean Price and others, R&B production for Destiny’s Child and even a Grammy with Mary J. Blige, 9th Wonder went back and discussed where it all started with Life+Times (a company that just so happens to be ran by Jay-Z).
Take a minute out of your day and check out this great insight into one of the Black Album‘s finest cuts. Hopefully we see the same thing done for more songs off Jay-Z’s retirement album.
