The opening seconds of vhvl’s “lvls” sound like a drawbridge being lowered, which evokes Super Mario Bros. 3 flashbacks of entering castles. After that, some noises appear that sound like flutes and I think of Ghostface Killah’s “The Forest”, and it completes the image I’ve painted in my mind of a strange time traveller making beats on a Macbook in the Middle Ages.
“mmnts” is a little less calm but equally gloomy. You only hear bits and pieces of a woman’s voice amid lively string section sounds that come and go. Maybe the voice we hear belongs to the time hopping beat nerd. Maybe they put her in a dungeon and charged her with sorcery for flaunting her laptop and calling it an “Apple”. And you have the nerve to complain about FaceTime.
