Unknown Mortal Orchestra – “So Good at Being in Trouble”

umoUnknown Mortal Orchestra is known to blast through catchy tunes quite effortlessly, capturing a nostalgic sound with a steady balance between rhythm and melody. Their debut album was a strong first showing, but it left us wanting more. Which is where II comes in, the second self-titled project from the indie outfit that is hopefully going to fill any void left behind the first time around.

Our latest taste, “So Good At Being In Trouble” could be described as minimalist. There is certainly an entire band recording here, but the snare drum is what takes command as far as rhythm goes. It sets the pace for Ruban Nielson, who stumbles along with lackadaisical vocal work and intricate guitar strumming. Despite the lack of energy upfront, this single comes out being a rather infectious tune filled with self-deprecation. [via]
