The good folks at Digi Crates Records shot over two leaks from their currently available tribute album to the late Nujabes, who tragically passed away earlier this year from injuries related to a car accident. Even though it was always difficult to find his music on this side of the Atlantic/Pacific and he kind of remained a mystery, it’s safe to say his death shook many of us in the underground hip-hop world. His work, both on his own and with cats like Substantial, was a gorgeous blend of samples and live instrumentation that will never be forgotten. Here we have two tracks honoring the late producer from DJ Ezasscul and Taku, both of whom do a fine job in interpreting Nujabes’ trademark sound.
Stream the two leaks from Tribute To Jun, which is out now on Digi Crates Records, below or download them after the skip, where you can also view the artwork.

This album is perfect for any die hard Nujabes fan, I never knew Nujabes in person but one thing me and him carry is that we are passionate about our music. Checkout my youtube page for access to more music, free mix-tapes, etc. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpuwA9dZ3ck as far as that trademark Nujabes sound, IDK if that guy was talking about me or other artist on the album but listen to my other music and you will here the resemblance between me and my mentor, Nujabes!
Nujabes was one of the dopest underground DJ’s. Rest In Beats Jun Seba
Nujabes was so dope! “Feather” with Cyne is one of my all time favorite tracks. RIP.
I know what you mean, but I still enjoy it.
I’d rather wait for the official unreleased material from the legend himself/tributes from the people he worked with (specially Substantial & Shing02) than these… not saying these are bad, in fact it’s always heartwarming to see people show respect to someone they clearly loved but as for that trademark Nujabes sound – really not even close
My only real exposure to Nujabes came from the Samurai Champloo soundtracks, a must for anyone looking to get more into the Asian beat scene of the mid-Aughts. Hadn’t even heard he’d passed. That’s a damn shame.
Time to bust out some SC soundtracks…
