rundown copy The Weekly Rundown (Sept. 14 21)

Welcome to the weekly rundown where we (soulsupreme and Marty) provide you with our top ten headlines for the week that was.

  1. Kanye West at the VMA’s. Probably the most overblown news story of the year. There are bigger issues in the world. Blame it on the Hennessey and keep it moving.
  2. Pioneering DJ Grand Master Roc Raida passes away. Another hip-hop legend gone to soon in 2009. Roc Raida was battling complications from surgery. This weekend his condition worsened and he passed away. Busta Rhymes confirmed the news on Twitter. Our prayers are with his family.
  3. Benefit concert in Detroit for Hexmurda. We hope people come out and support the cause. And we hope Hex makes a full recovery really soon.
  4. Lil Fame releases OFFICIAL statement regarding beat-jacking allegation. Looks like it comes down to a simple mistake. We’re glad to see this get cleared up because both parties deserve their shine and shouldn’t have it marred by something like this.
  5. Kia Shine to get publishing for Drake’s “Best I Ever Had”. Men lie, women lie, royalties cheques don’t (unless they don’t clear)*
  6. Nas and Kelis reconciling? Pictures don’t lie. Or maybe Nas realized it would be cheaper to keep her.
  7. Q-Tip performing on Jimmy Fallon. Arista finally released Kamaal The Abstract album. Q-Tip kills this performance on Jimmy Fallon this week.
  8. Warrant out for Beanie Sigel? Again? Seriously? Man, the Broad Street Bully gets the dunce of the week award, if such an award existed.
  9. Tweet Of The Week: #1 spot goes to Skillz: “Is it me? Or evry dude I c n skinny jeans alwys looks insecure abt em. Lookn down, pullin em up, grabn his belt loop. U no WTF u got on fool

man that Ye shit got way overblown and i wont even speak of the underlying gender & racial body politic that emerged and that nobody was speaking to as the “moment” took on it’s silly TMZ era life. happy Kamaal the Abstract finally got an official release. it’s such a good album it unfortunate it didn’t drop during the heyday of the soulquarian “movement”. RIP to Roc Raida indeed! and i hope Hex gets well. lastly Nas is a fool to get back with that woman, period. he needs to get his lawyers to apeal that outlandish ruling. i dont care who you are, no one deserves that much money in spousal support!

Word, I’m happy the Kamaal The Abstract is finally being released. The bootleg is dope.
