The Weekly Rundown (Aug 24-31th)

rundown copy The Weekly Rundown (Aug 24 31th)

Welcome to the weekly rundown where we (soulsupreme and Marty) provide you with our top ten headlines for the week that was.

  1. R.I.P. DJ AM. I can’t say we’re really up on DJ AM, but he was a huge influence on many artists like DJ Premier, DJ Jazzy Jeff, John Mayer and Questlove. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this time.
  2. Drake – Forever (Feat Eminem, Kanye West & Lil Wayne). We’re happy for his success, but the music he’s making is uninteresting. It’s the same mainstream hip-hop we won’t remember a year from now.
  3. N*E*R*D to add a female R&B vocalist. N*E*R*D is a dope alternative rock group, but if the new music sounds anything like BEP with Fergie >>>FAIL. The only female they should be adding to that group is Santigold.
  4. Fabolous concert ends in gunfire. Violence at a hip-hop concert. We’re not surprised, but it’s still a damn shame that it gets to that point. Does Fab’s music really make people want to shoot each other? Maybe they were just pissed about how much Loso’s Way sucked?
  5. One Be Lo Signs with MYX Music Label! We’re happy to see OBL with a new label and with new material on the horizon. He’s been steadily dropping solid albums ever since Binary Star’s underground classic Masters of the Universe.
  6. Jay Electronica - Google Eyes (Live) Finally some new material that we can get excited about. Hopefully the EP with him and Just Blaze drops in the near future.
  7. Torae lands new A&R gig with Soulspazm Records. Congratulations to Torae on this one. We have faith that he’ll be able to land some solid artists for Soulspazm. We just hope he doesn’t submit to industry rule #4080.
  8. Raekwon still mad at Nas. PSA: Put out the damn album and stop crying about Nas.
  9. Tweet of the week: Dart_Adams get the #1 spot; “Dear Jay-Z & Nas, I REALLY wanna be a fan but you muthafuckas are making it a real chore right now!Sincerely, The Management.” With the recent Jay-Z leaks all produced by Timbaland we completely agree.
  10. New Releases next Tuesday:
  • Blue Scholars – Bayani Redux
  • Definitive Jux Presents – IV
  • Qwel & Maker – So Be It
  • Beanie Sigel – Broad Street Bully
  • Aesop – Living the Dream While Awake

I’ll be sure not to become shady record company people. B.A.M & Ric Rude’s “Golden Era” will be dropping Sept. 1st. Check it out, let me know how I’m doing…..

  5. frank_bE says:

lol @ 3 and the last part of 4. but really, cats shoot @ fab concerts. dont he make music for the ladies and clubs? i think dudes just mad there aint no real street shit to vent their anger with anymore, so they let off at a fab concert. and i kind of dig the drake song

  6. soulsupreme says:

@Torae We got you and Marco Polo on this blog. Best of luck with the new gig. I’ll be happy to see the homie Vandalyzm get some shine.

  7. soulsupreme says:

@frank_bE The Drake song isn’t bad, but its an old beat Kardinal used for a track called “Bring It Back”. Kind of hoping with those types of features it would be a bit more creative.
