The sonic palate of the Stepkids seems to grow in new and interesting directions with every single they release. While they struck me as a psych rock-leaning outfit at first, the Connecticut trio waltzes into a new territory with “The Lottery”. It’s the latest we’re hearing from their sophomore album, Troubadour, and sounds like the long lost B-side to a Steely Dan single. That’s a compliment of the highest regard, if you ask me, especially because no one is really making music like this anymore.
