I’m at the point where I’m kind of out of words to describe just what the Left is worth listening to right now. I mean, we did feature a review of the trio’s debut, Gas Mask, that gave it, oh, you know, a perfect score. Trust me, friends, that is not something do often here as the only other album to receive five potholes was Brother Ali’s Us. What this Detroit trio is doing is not only important for further cementing the city as hip-hop’s go-to hotbed, but it also displays that gritty, underground rap can be progressive. These guys are just dwelling in the past and reinventing the Mafioso sound. They’re building on that and adding a slew of dimensions to create something new.
And in case you haven’t shelled out the bucks for it, the Left has decided to offer its Gas Leaks EP to you for free. It features three tracks not on the full-length and gives you yet another reason to purchase Gas Mask.
Stream “Scared” below and download the EP after the jump.
