Remember rap before haters, Maybachs and swag? When MCs would just step to the mic and spit relatables over a sick beat as the DJ cut all around and through their verses? I do. And while it certainly still exists, it seems to be getting harder and harder to find. But this track “Well Respected (featuring Joell Ortiz and I-20)” from the Madison, Wisc.-based Fall Guys – comprised of DJ Pain 1 and Emcee Starr – is a throwback to those times not only in its energy, feel and sound, but also in lyrical content. The track is off the Fall Guys’ upcoming mixtape, Clocked In, hosted by Royce da 5’9” and due out in October, which also features Emilio Rojas, Skyzoo and !llmind, among others. Check it.
