The Best Songs of 2012 (Part 1)

We’ve already given a round down of our favorite artwork and music videos of 2012, and now we’re diving into our choices for the best songs of the past year. To be blunt, we loved a lot of singles in the past 12 months from across the genresphere, though hip-hop and its off-shoots remain the backbone of our selections. For example, Baauer‘s “Harlem Shake” most certainly isn’t rap music, but the genre’s influence breathes through the floor-shaking bass and synthesizers.

As such, we didn’t want to throw all 100 songs at you in a single post. Instead, we’ve broken our picks up into two parts, with the first arriving today. We’ll be sharing our top 50 songs tomorrow so for now, enjoy browsing through cuts from the Alchemist, RATKING, Ta-ku, Lapalux, Captain Murphy and many, many more.
