Even though Tearjerker is a Toronto band and Toronto is the city I have spent most of my physical life in, I heard of these guys last spring when I saw their debut record Strangers posted up on a Russian torrent site. I loved it. A few projects later, Strangers is shaping up to be the aesthetic foundation of their sound, evidence being that tone has more than a few threads in their their follow-up record “Remade” and their newest LP Rare. At the fore of each of these projects is a gloop of vowels from the mouth of lead singer Micah, whose words are are processed into oozy sounds and blended a stew of hazy, shimmery frequencies by production/drum/sample guru Trevor. Underlying the bleed is bass from Taylor, who is also responsible for all of their art work. (Neat fact: he also does design at Macleans.)
