We’ve been contemplating for the past few weeks as to what albums should land on our annual year-end lists. While past years might have been a bit more indie-heavy, this year seems to be focused on the many stellar hip-hop and r&b projects. One album strikes me in the indie realm, though, and that is Tame Impala’s Lonerism. Can I make a bold statement right now? Okay, Lonerism was the only interesting album that indie rock had to offer in 2012. I know, that is extreme, but there was nothing quite pushing the genre forward like this mind-bending piece of music.
Which is exactly what is going to happen when you watch their trippy new video for Lonerism cut “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards”. I can’t get over how well this song, and entire album, was mixed. The blending of electric and electronic instruments is blissful, really, and it should be admired as quite a masterful achievement. And don’t give me that, “he sounds just like John Lennon” nonsense.
Watch “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards” below. Lonerism is out now.

this is a little unfair on grizzly bear i have to say, not much between the two albums
