You know it and I know it — Tanya Morgan put out one of 2009′s best albums with Brooklynati. That record took me back to the early ’90s without sounding cliche or contrived. That’s no easy feat considering the fact so many acts fail at trying to bring the Golden Era back. But hell, it’s not even like these three guys were going for that anyway. It’s just hard not to think of De La’s work from that time when I hear Von Pea, Ilyas, and Donwill on a track together. Anyway, Pea’s getting us all ready for his upcoming solo debut, Pea’s Gotta Have It, by offering us this ridiculously titled mixtape. And I expect nothing but great results from a project named So Motivation: The Most Skullduggery of Mixtapes, especially when it features cats like Danny! (Where are you, by the way?), Donwill, Sene, and the Lessondary.

When Tanya Morgan’s Von Pea and Donwill heard the Roots’ impromptu LNJF Sandwiches mixtape, the two MCs felt they needed to do more than just enjoy the instrumentals. They grabbed nine of the “sandwiches” to spit over and even brought Spec Boogie, Che Grand and Jermiside along for the ride known as The Sandwich Shop. The nine-track EP kicks off to an excellent start with the rapping exercise of “Spaintro” and never looks back. I can’t complain about getting free music like this, but I will say I could have used a few more tracks. Yeah, I’m greedy. Stream the EP below and click the player to download the project for free.

May 25th marks the release of Jermiside and Danny Diggs collaborative LP, Middle Classic, via HiPNOTT Records. Props to HiPNOTT for dropping a whole bunch of fresh hip-hop projects this year! Von Pea of Tanya Morgan steals the show here on this wonderful Danny Diggs production. After checking this single, I am pretty damn excited to check out the rest of the project. Be sure to check back for more leaks as well as an album review at some point later on in May.

This got me pretty excited this morning, the newest cut off the homie Descry’s upcoming album, As Serenity Approaches. I don’t know how he did it, but he somehow managed to get some of my favorite emcees rocking it right now all on one song! And if that isn’t enough, we also get word that the album will feature such artists as Oddisee, Dumbfoundead, Donwill, Ohmega Watts, Substantial, Raashan Ahmad, John Robinson, TiRon, Theo Martins, Nieve and more. Now THAT is a list of features. But don’t get it twisted, Des won’t be overshadowed by this star-studded lineup. The man has beats! Give this single a spin and stay tuned for more leaks as we approach the date of this release.

The homie DJ Low Key sent us this new Von Pea track “Toss It Over”. The track is off the DJ Low Key & Sounds Supreme – The Solution Tape #1. mixtape dropping in early February. The release of this mixtape is part of their three-year anniversary of their weekly party – The Solution; this is one of the premier nights for Hip-Hop in Denver, CO. Denver Solution has a massive post from June 2009 showcasing a Red Bull Music Academy-sponsored Solution night where Exile, DJ Day, Che Grand, Von and Donwill were surprise guests.

“Toss It Over” came together when four-time Solution guest and all around great rapper/producer, Von Pea from Tanya Morgan, recorded over an unreleased Suhburb beat. DJ Low Key & Sounds Supreme – The Solution Tape #1, will features exclusives and premiers from all three members of Tanya Morgan, Donnis, Ro Blvd, Median, Kooley High, Mike Baker, 1 O.A.K., Moe Green, Whygee, Kid Hum, Exile, DJ Day, Che Grand, Othello, DJ Vajra & more. Here comes an exclusive cut, thanks to the good folks at FH. Two of my favorite emcees right now team up to absolutely kill this track. This is the first time I think these two have collaborated, but I really hope it’s not the last. The compilation will also feature Prince Po, Jake One, Madlib, L.I.F.E. Here’s what looks like an insane (in a good way) tribute to my personal favorite group of all time – De La Soul. Mick Boogie & Terry Urban teamed up with a slew of artists (ranging from Tanya Morgan to Phife Dawg to 6th Sense to Camp Lo to Apple Juice Kid) for this project. I heard a leak the other day for Phife’s  “Peace Porridge” and I can tell you I was interested off that track alone.
