Here’s the latest project from the homie Theo Martins, one of Rhode Island’s finest MCs. He’s destined to make a name for himself outside of the Ocean State and, actually, that’s kind of already happened already. His upcoming project with $port is dropping on Hall of Justus and Martins is on his way to SXSW right now. Channel Surfin’ is the prelude to Martins and $port’s HoJ release and provides listeners with an array of sounds, from a Foals remix to his own take on a Flying Lotus joint. The Rhody MC is joined by a slew of talented like-minded acts on here, too, including RAtheMC, U-N-I, and Rapper Big Pooh.
It’s been a long time coming, but we promise it’s worth the wait…Ladies and gentlemen, we’re proud to present to you, DJ Low Key & Sounds Supreme – The Solution Tape #1…Hosted by our good friends and some of our favorites artists out, U-N-I & Ro Blvd, and featuring exclusives and world premiers from some of the top new MCs and producers in hip hop including all three members of Tanya Morgan, Donnis, Exile, DJ Day, Che Grand, Buff1, Adad, 8thW1, Whygee, Kid Hum, Kooley High, Median, Theo Martins, Mike Baker, 1 O.A.K., Moe Green & more, as well as some of our favorite newer tracks. Please give it a spin and let us know what you think. Props to my homie DJ Low Key.
Here’s what looks like an insane (in a good way) tribute to my personal favorite group of all time – De La Soul. Mick Boogie & Terry Urban teamed up with a slew of artists (ranging from Tanya Morgan to Phife Dawg to 6th Sense to Camp Lo to Apple Juice Kid) for this project. I heard a leak the other day for Phife’s “Peace Porridge” and I can tell you I was interested off that track alone. Download, enjoy, and give thanks to one of the greatest groups to ever do it as well as everyone involved on this mixtape. Hit the jump for the tracklist.
Here is the premier for U-N-I’s “Pulp Fiction Part 1″, featuring Fashawn and produced by Ro. Blvd. This joint was one of my favorites of the past year, and you can find it on U-N-I & Ro. Blvd’s free LP, A Love Supreme.
As someone who was born and bred here, I can promise you this: Rhode Island gets a lot of flack. Most people think it’s an actual island. Or they assume it is part of Connecticut or Massachusetts. Sometimes, you get people who think you are from Long Island. Nope. It’s Lil’ Rhody, people, and we have some emcees and producers primed to make a mini-splash on the hip-hop scene. Though they aren’t the first to make a name here, the likes of Theo and Jon Hope are on the come up. And to commemorate both that and his free EP Somekind of Wonderful, I had Jon Hope answer some questions to provide some background on just why he deserves your attention.
Here is a preview, hit the skip for the full feature…
Marty: Hey, Jon, thanks for taking the time to do this. As a fellow Rhode Islander, it is, above all, a great feeling to see someone creative and talented getting some brand name recognition.
Marty: Now on that point, it’s very interesting and gratifying to see two newer Rhody emcees – you and Theo – gaining exposure right now, particularly because you both represent different niches in hip-hop. What are your thoughts on that? Jon: I think it’s a beautiful thing. It shows the diversity within R.I. and how different our approaches are towards music. I am really enjoying this ride that Theo and I are on. We both come from the same neighborhood and worked very closely in the infant stages of our careers and to see us both blossom step by step is really great for our city.
Y-O and Thurzday, the two that make up the LA hip-hop group U-N-I have been on my radar since dropping their first album, Fried Chicken & Watermelon. Ever since hearing the drum kick in on their first track “The Launch”, it was a done deal. Just off dropping their Mick Boogie hosted mixtape, Before There Was Love and a slew of other dope features within the blogosphere, U-N-I & Ro Blvd present the long awaited, A Love Supreme. There are few releases that I have been anticipating this year as much as this one. With all the hype surrounding the group, it is about time that U-N-I turns it into much deserved respect. Give it a spin and give us your thoughts on the album!
Huge fan of U-N-I and have been anticipating this Mick Boogie mixtape for quite some time. These are some really entertaining emcees from the west coast that have a unique and interesting take on hip-hop. If you are looking to kick back and listen to some fun music, pop this tape in for sure. Props to http://www.thepressplayshow.com/
