The homie Theo Martins has been on one hell of a streak over the past two years and counting. Aside from his acclaimed The Birth mixtape and You Can’t Do That On Television with $port, the Rhody MC has been dropping off free gifts here and there. And he’s done it a number of ways, such as rapping over Little Dragon and destroying J. Cole’s “Who Dat?”. Here, he’s linked with Party Supplies for a dance remix of Kanye West’s King Crimson-sampling “Power”. The results are fantastic, as is the video, which we have featured here, too.

If you have visited Potholes in the past year or so we’ve been in existence, then you already know that I love to show off the fact that Rhode Island, no matter how tiny, has some great hip-hop talent. Here, we get to hear a killer verse from one of those talented cats with Theo Martins spitting with Ced Hughes on “How to Hang”. Their Providence-to-Atlanta connection is extremely natural and fluid, as both bounce effortlessly over Hughes’ synth-heavy production. Apparently they both have projects dropping next month, too, so definitely be on the look out for those.

Because I’m super cool (I’m not), I’ve had this EP in my possession since last summer. Theo, who also calls Rhode Island home, shot it over to me for review when he and producer $port were looking to present it as the name Chris Connery. Apparently they dropped that name for You Can’t Do That On Television, but all the music remains the same. Oh, and the music? Friggin’ fantastic. I cannot say enough how much Theo has grown as an MC over the past few years, with some tracks on here just being flat-out exercises in how to rap. It’s all clean, too, so feel free to blast this in the vicinity of children without feeling the need to shout EARMUFFS every so often. Enjoy. Props to DJ Booth on presenting this fine product, too.

Here’s the latest project from the homie Theo Martins, one of Rhode Island’s finest MCs. He’s destined to make a name for himself outside of the Ocean State and, actually, that’s kind of already happened already. His upcoming project with $port is dropping on Hall of Justus and Martins is on his way to SXSW right now. Channel Surfin’ is the prelude to Martins and $port’s HoJ release and provides listeners with an array of sounds, from a Foals remix to his own take on a Flying Lotus joint. The Rhody MC is joined by a slew of talented like-minded acts on here, too, including RAtheMC, U-N-I, and Rapper Big Pooh.

One of the more promising up-and-comers from my area, Theo Martins as been steadily building the hype for what will likely be a huge year for him. And, in anticipation of his upcoming Channel Surfin’ mixtape, he drops this leak of the slick “Foals Remix” featuring BK Cyph. The two go in over a remix of Foals’ “Electric Bloom”, which happens to be one of the better tracks off the British band’s killer Antidotes LP. Be on the look-out for Channel Surfin’, which is due out March 15 and likely to remain stuck in your rotation.
