Here’s the latest project from the homie Theo Martins, one of Rhode Island’s finest MCs. He’s destined to make a name for himself outside of the Ocean State and, actually, that’s kind of already happened already. His upcoming project with $port is dropping on Hall of Justus and Martins is on his way to SXSW right now. Channel Surfin’ is the prelude to Martins and $port’s HoJ release and provides listeners with an array of sounds, from a Foals remix to his own take on a Flying Lotus joint. The Rhody MC is joined by a slew of talented like-minded acts on here, too, including RAtheMC, U-N-I, and Rapper Big Pooh.

One of the more promising up-and-comers from my area, Theo Martins as been steadily building the hype for what will likely be a huge year for him. And, in anticipation of his upcoming Channel Surfin’ mixtape, he drops this leak of the slick “Foals Remix” featuring BK Cyph. The two go in over a remix of Foals’ “Electric Bloom”, which happens to be one of the better tracks off the British band’s killer Antidotes LP. Be on the look-out for Channel Surfin’, which is due out March 15 and likely to remain stuck in your rotation.
For this installment of Under The Radar, I have to feature two of my favorite artists who seem to excel even more when working together: Theo Martins and $port. They paired up to form Chris Connery — an ode to DJ Premier (first name Chris) and actor Sean Connery — and put together the EP You Can’t Do To That On Television, an ode itself to the old school Nickelodeon show. That EP was set to drop last fall but it was pushed back when Hall of Justus showed interest. While we’re waiting for that to drop, here’s a track from the duo we didn’t get to post when it first came around. It’s Theo doin’ the damn thing over some ‘94-era RZA-type-shit. Enjoy.
Theo Martins, one of Rhody’s best, sent out a video trailer for this track last week. And I wanted to post it, but I ran low on time and decided to hold off until the actual track, “Veni Vidi Vici”, dropped. Well, here it is. He spits over some fantastic Kris Fame production for a cut that makes the wait for Theo’s Channel Surfiing project, which drops Feb. 24, that much more difficult. Ah well, at least I can play this over and over and …
