We apologize for the delay on this podcast, but we have been trying to sort out some major server issues on the back end. With that said, it looks like we have fixed the slow load times and are ready to kick things off again. June was a killer month for music, so it was tough trimming this mix down to just one hour. Expect new tunes from Nas, Dirty Projectors, Freddie Gibbs, and much more, as all these artists have exciting new projects dropping in the near future. And, of course, we closed things out with the epic new Frank Ocean tune, “Pyramids”. Give it a spin and let us know what you think.

The Kickdrums were floating around the idea of dropping this banger on their recently released Follow The Leaders mixtape, but things fell through. We had a quick taste, but now here’s the full audio. Yeah, I love this song, and you should, too. Give it a spin and let us know what you think about the ASAP Rocky and Lana Del Rey chemistry. It seemed to work pretty well earlier today. [via]

The Kickdrums – Follow the Leaders [Mixtape]

The Kickdrums have quickly solidified themselves as a production duo worth messing with. For their latest endeavor, the Follow the Leaders mixtape, the guys have recruited everyone from Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire to Lana Del Rey. But wait, Lana couldn’t make it because of label issues. Oh well. Other features include Freddie Gibbs, ~~Yelawolf~~ Machine Gun Kelly, Casey Veggies, Big Pooh, and more. Let’s just hope the Kickdrums get the shine they deserve, because this star-studded cast sure does have potential to steal the limelight. Click here to download the mixtape.

A$AP Rocky & Lana Del Rey Pair Up On a Track, Hear Preview

The production duo known as the Kickdrums are prepped to drop off their mixtape tomorrow, and they have a special treat to share with us a day before. That is right, a collaboration between Lana Del Rey and A$AP Rocky, two of the most talked about stars on the Internet. While I am pretty much over her solo work and live performances, Lana Del Rey does sound awesome within the hip-hop realm. “Lana, that’s my bitch,” says Rocky to the Rey in the short sample below. The Kickdrums’ Follow the Leader is due out tomorrow, and it will feature Freddie Gibbs, Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire, and more.

The Kickdrums have often times crossed over between rock and hip-hop, coming up with a rather happy medium that brings together the best of both worlds. “Want My Blood” is a fine example of that, which features Rockie Fresh and DZ Deathrays elevating the track even further. This edgy single will land on The Kickdrums’ upcoming mixtape, Follow The Leaders, which is due out next month.

If you don’t have the Kickdrums’ Meet Your Ghost, then you are missing out one of the best albums from 2011. The duo dropped a video to help promote an upcoming show in Cleveland, and it happens to go with 0ne of my favorite tracks from the album, “Burning River”. The Kickdrums aren’t just known for production after this album, having a Bob Ross-esqe blend of pop, dance and alt on one disc. These visuals are insane, showing the creation of the show poster, which I hope goes on sale on the web. If not, have any of your Cleveland people cop me one, Christmas isn’t that far away.

Stream The KickDrums’ Meet Your Ghost Album

The songwriter-producer duo of Alex Fitts and Matt Penttila (aka the KickDrums) has been re-inventing what pop means since they started working together in 2007. The hype surrounding their debut LP Meet Your Ghost is reaching critical mass, and with new labelmates like Chromeo and DFA 1979, The KickDrums have quite a reputation to live up to on June 28 when the record drops via Last Gang Records.

Of course, you never really have to wait until the release date anymore. For record highlights, check the album namesake “Meet Your Ghost” and “Naked”, both of which exemplify the depth of Fitts’ lyrical content and the breadth of Penttila’s skill on the pads. The latter track sounds like an upbeat James Blake meets how good the Killers sounded when I was 12.

Before we get to hear a full-length or proper EP from these guys, the KickDrums have linked with 11 Inch Records for a project full of remixes and two new tracks. While the majority of Something’s Gotta Give centers around remixes of the title-track, we also get a killer new tune called “We Can’t Go Home Anymore My Love”. It might just be the duo’s most laid-back cut yet and it leaves me wondering what their next effort will sound like…and when we’re going to hear it.

This producer/singer duo releases some of the most enjoyable music around, with an intelligent and witty edge. Getting into the holiday spirit, the duo was feeling a little generous and has offered us “Animal” for free download, from their album Meet Your Ghost. It’s a track that toys with both melancholic and invigorating sounds all in one.

Anyway, our good friends The Kickdrums always make sure to keep us Potholians well-informed on anything new they have in the works.
