Because Coachella is just about one month away, it’s about time that we start showing some love to the artists who are going to be making this year’s event something special. Fittingly, our good friends The Kickdrums have come through just in time with a special Coachella mixtape. With songs from artists who will be performing at this  year’s event such as Jay-Z, Wale, Passion Pit, and La Roux, as well as some original material from The Kickdrums themselves, you really can’t go wrong. A full tracklist is available at The Kickdrums website. Mixtapes for day two and day three are also on their way, so keep your ears open.

Alex from The Kickdrums just sent over this superb remix to The Constellations song, “Setback”. Featuring an ultra funky, danceable vibe, this is just sort of music you need to heat up your frigid winter days. For those familiar with The Kickdrums previous work, this track will come as no surprise, as it uses a beat rooted in hip-hop, but takes a definite step away from traditional hip-hop sounds. Stay tuned for more news regarding some outrageous plans The Kickdrums have brewing.

Here’s what looks like an insane (in a good way) tribute to my personal favorite group of all time – De La Soul. Mick Boogie & Terry Urban teamed up with a slew of artists (ranging from Tanya Morgan to Phife Dawg to 6th Sense to Camp Lo to Apple Juice Kid) for this project. I heard a leak the other day for Phife’s  “Peace Porridge” and I can tell you I was interested off that track alone. Download, enjoy, and give thanks to one of the greatest groups to ever do it as well as everyone involved on this mixtape. Hit the jump for the tracklist.

The Kickdrums just released this killer uptempo joint, “Get Even” featuring Colin Munroe, and after one listen, we just had to post it up here. It’s perfect for the days of sun we have been experiencing lately, well at least up here in the Northeast. And even if it’s rainy where you are, this one might just inspire a mini-dance party. We showed love to the Kickdrums previously by posting their album Just a Game – shame on you, by the way, if you haven’t heard it yet. Props to GiantSteps.

We hit you every day with the latest and greatest in the hip-hop game, but today I give you a love-tap of something else. Call it what you like, but this debut album from The Kickdrums is fantastic music. Although they did do a lot of hip-hop production, they took a different approach with this, showing you that they are the total package.
