  1. Beastie Boys album gets pushed back, MCA diagnosed with cancer. Hopefully MCA makes a full recovery soon, which is expected since the cancer is treatable. There’s way too much death going on of late.
  2. Ma Dukes and J Dilla’s heirs succeed in legal battle. After all the hardships Ma Dukes has gone through with J Dilla’s estate since his passing, it’s great to know the right people will be receiving the money now.
  3. Method Man & Joe Budden squash the beef at Rock The Bells. It’s good to see petty beefs come to an end, but damn, a series of Slaughterhouse and Wu-Tang diss tracks would have been nice. Read the rest of this entry »

Welcome to the weekly rundown where we (soulsupreme and Marty) provide you with our top ten headlines for the week that was.

  1. MJ Tribute in Los Angeles. Finally a worthy tribute for the late music-icon. Usher, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder and others were on hand to give Michael Jackson a classy, heartfelt memorial at the Staples Center this past Tuesday. RIP MJ, you will be missed.
  2. Jay-Z premieres Blueprint 3 intro in CT. Jay-Z gives the CT crowd a dose of the BP3 intro that mentions The Game, Jimmy and Dame. The wordplay on this intro is incredible. BP3 can’t here sooner.
  3. The Game releases another Jay-Z (diss) – I’m So Wavy? The Game has been baiting Jay-Z for about four years now and it appears that the gloves are now off. To be honest his diss track packs enough punch to make fruit punch. It just doesn’t strike fear at all. Read the rest of this entry »

Welcome to the weekly rundown where we (soulsupreme and Marty) provide you with our top ten headlines for the week that was.

  1. VIBE Magazine ceases operations. After 16 years in business the urban music magazine has ceased operations. It’s not too surprising to anyone these days when a magazine or newspaper folds. But that doesn’t mean it’s still disappointing and a continuing sign of how shitty the industry has become.
  2. R.I.P. QB Steve McNair. In a very sad turn of events former Tennessee Quarterback  Steve McNair was killed yesterday in an apparent murder-suicide along with a young woman. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this time.
  3. Michael Jackson returns to the Billboard charts. After the tragic death of the music icon last week, his music sales have dominated billboard charts again. Sadly, death is one hell of a promotion tool. Read the rest of this entry »
