The Mighty Mos Def just alerted everyone to GoogleMusic’s posting of an acapella version of this The Ecstatic highlight. The original version of “History” features a dope J Dilla beat that probably can’t be topped. But hey, maybe someone can make some more magic with these hot verses from Mos and Kweli. In the process of absorbing the latest Mos Def LP The Ecstatic I couldn’t help but revisit his previous New Danger album from 2004. I have to ask, why didn’t people like New Danger again? It’s fantastic in my opinion. Mos Def was funky, experimental and still conscious. Besides Minnesota, 88-Keys & Kanye West, he was also working with a rock collective called Black Jack Johnson. The group was comprised of himself, Dr. Know, Will Calhoun and Doug Wimbish (both from Living Colour). The overall sound was funky, edgy and still hip-hop at its core. Read the rest of this entry »

Here is the video for the single, “Casa Bey”, off Mos Def’s upcoming LP, The Ecstatic, dropping June 9th. This joint leaked last week, making it clear to me that the Boogie Man was here to take hip-hop back to where it belongs. If you are expecting a video as extravagant as the song, think again. All you are going to see is a close-up of Mos Def and words flying out of his mouth, but that doesn’t prevent it from being dope as hell.
