Turning a Dream Into a Reality: An Interview with Buggs Tha Rocka

Buggs Tha Rocka Turning a Dream Into a Reality: An Interview with Buggs Tha Rocka

Buggs Tha Rocka is a relatively new name to me, but the budding emcee has been collecting some serious accolades of late. He’s been on tracks with members of Little Brother and Tanya Morgan, and he’s got a unique flow that perhaps hints that he may be the next rapper in line for the title of Native-Tongues-revivalist. Hailing from Cincinnati, Buggs follows in the tradition of rich Ohio hip-hop history. Hit the skip to find out what he’s got on his mind, how he feels about radio rap, and to learn a little comic book nerdery.

Rockpaperscissors – Rock. Paper. Scissors. [Remix EP]

RockPaperScissor Rockpaperscissors Rock. Paper. Scissors. [Remix EP]The three producers of Rockpaperscissors apparently had been planning this type of remix project for a while as a means of introducing themselves as a group that will collaborate in the near future. In other words, Rock. Paper. Scissors. acts as a teaser for what we can expect from Emay, EOM and Remot. On here, they have each tackled the duty of remixing tracks from the likes of Tanya Morgan, Lupe Fiasco, Jay-Z and Wale along with some brand new verses from 6th Sense and Wax. Personally, I’m most interested in hearing EOM’s remix of “The Blank (Dangerous MCs)” as it features the new Wax verse, which is a nice treat for fans of Wax and EOM’s stellar Liquid Courage album.

Von Pea – So Motivational: The Most Skullduggery of Mixtapes [Mixtape]

vonpea Von Pea So Motivational: The Most Skullduggery of Mixtapes [Mixtape]You know it and I know it — Tanya Morgan put out one of 2009′s best albums with Brooklynati. That record took me back to the early ’90s without sounding cliche or contrived. That’s no easy feat considering the fact so many acts fail at trying to bring the Golden Era back. But hell, it’s not even like these three guys were going for that anyway. It’s just hard not to think of De La’s work from that time when I hear Von Pea, Ilyas, and Donwill on a track together. Anyway, Pea’s getting us all ready for his upcoming solo debut, Pea’s Gotta Have It, by offering us this ridiculously titled mixtape. And I expect nothing but great results from a project named So Motivation: The Most Skullduggery of Mixtapes, especially when it features cats like Danny! (Where are you, by the way?), Donwill, Sene, and the Lessondary.

You can download So Motivational after the jump. Stream “Lookin Fly” below.

Donwill & Von Pea – The Sandwich Shop [EP]

Von Pea Donwill Donwill & Von Pea The Sandwich Shop [EP]

When Tanya Morgan’s Von Pea and Donwill heard the Roots’ impromptu LNJF Sandwiches mixtape, the two MCs felt they needed to do more than just enjoy the instrumentals. They grabbed nine of the “sandwiches” to spit over and even brought Spec Boogie, Che Grand and Jermiside along for the ride known as The Sandwich Shop. The nine-track EP kicks off to an excellent start with the rapping exercise of “Spaintro” and never looks back. I can’t complain about getting free music like this, but I will say I could have used a few more tracks. Yeah, I’m greedy. Stream the EP below and click the player to download the project for free.

SMKA mixtape 300x300 Download: Tanya Morgan The Make BelieverJust hearing about this SMKA mixtape and what better way to spread it to the masses than with a new Tanya Morgan joint. New music from this Brooklynati trio is always a treat, but it’s even better when that music is fantastic like this. All three MCs kill it, especially Ilyas who flexes his double-time flow during the second verse. I can’t wait to hear what else these guys bring to the table in 2010, though it’s been announced all three members will drop a single album. Also cannot wait to hear the rest of this mixtape The 808 Experiment: Vol. 2, which drops Jan. 18.
