Thought I would give this nifty collection of joints a post, a little Consequence never hurt anybody. The tape features appearances from Kanye West, Common, Talib Kweli, Q-Tip, Rick Ross (BAWSE), Pharoahe Monch, Asher Roth, Diddy, Kid Cudi, Styles P, and more. I don’t really have much excitement for this tape, but Cons last album was nothing short of superb. Give the tape a download and share some thoughts…

After giving us “Just Begun” in late December, Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek are back with their latest single from the upcoming Revolutions Per Minute LP. “In This World” incorporates a lovely soul sample in the chorus combined with “If skills sold, truth be told/I’d probably be, lyrically Talib Kweli” verse by Jay-Z. You may remember the verse that from the The Black album. The tempo is a lot slower on this joint but still a worthy listen. Revolutions Per Minute is scheduled to be released April 6th.

It’s no secret that hip-hop is in constant motion – it changes year to year. Emerging technologies combined with the fickle needs and wants of the industry, the artists, and the fans, all play a role in shaping our musical world. Some of the changes to the hip-hop scene have been, well, less than desirable (see: the decline of radio rap). However, the past ten years, 2000-2009, still held releases of some of the most creative and unique hip-hop albums of all time, with an ever-expanding range of sub-genres. Traditional hip-hop rooted in the golden age of the ’90s was certainly alive and well, but it was sharing chart space with newer, progressive styles. That said, we have compiled a list of our 25 favorite hip-hop albums from the past ten years, as a form of celebrating the musical diversity in hip-hop from the decade that was.

After hearing the radio rip on Shade45 with Just Blaze and Jay Electronica, the CDQ has finally surfaced. The beat sounds like something from the Rawkus era. Jay Electronica and J. Cole really shine on this latest Hi-Tek production. Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek’s Revolutions Per Minute is due out in February 2010. Props to Eskay.

Here’s what looks like an insane (in a good way) tribute to my personal favorite group of all time – De La Soul. Mick Boogie & Terry Urban teamed up with a slew of artists (ranging from Tanya Morgan to Phife Dawg to 6th Sense to Camp Lo to Apple Juice Kid) for this project. I heard a leak the other day for Phife’s “Peace Porridge” and I can tell you I was interested off that track alone. Download, enjoy, and give thanks to one of the greatest groups to ever do it as well as everyone involved on this mixtape. Hit the jump for the tracklist.

The Mighty Mos Def just alerted everyone to GoogleMusic’s posting of an acapella version of this The Ecstatic highlight. The original version of “History” features a dope J Dilla beat that probably can’t be topped. But hey, maybe someone can make some more magic with these hot verses from Mos and Kweli. Producers, jump on it. Enjoy!

Welcome to the weekly rundown where we (soulsupreme and Marty) provide you with our top ten headlines for the week that was.
- Shyne to be released from prison and possibly deported. Lookout Diddy, Shyne is coming home. The real question is will he deported back to Belize or not. I don’t like the way P. Diddy did Shyne with different lawyers © Nas
- The Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch feels ‘hopeful’ about cancer treatment. After a year full of deaths, we’re happy to report some good news from the Beastie Boys. We’re hoping for a speedy recovery.
- Jay-Z wins MTV’s Hottest MC of the year, Eminem not included on the top 10 list. MTV sucks, ’nuff said. Seriously, there’s nothing else to say about this without stooping to MTV’s level of shittiness. Read the rest of this entry »
