Skyzoo & Illmind – “Frisbees”

skyzoo Skyzoo & Illmind FrisbeesWhen I heard that Skyzoo was going on his mixtape-type-shit for his upcoming collaboration with Illmind, I couldn’t help but get just a little hyped. I really enjoyed The Salvation, but, like others, felt that some of Sky’s best material already came via his previous mixtapes. As such, I had high hopes when these two announced their pairing up for Live from the Tape Deck. The album’s lead single, “Frisbees”, leaked several weeks ago but now we get the video for the track. And while it’s not especially flashy or loaded with special effects, I think Sky’s flow and Illmind’s beat are flashy enough for like five videos. Or 10, even.

St. Joe Louis – 30,000 ft. High & Rising [LP]

st joe louis St. Joe Louis 30,000 ft. High & Rising [LP]We’re excited to finally bring to you a project that many of you know has been in the works for a while. Presented by us, Rock the Dub, and RefinedHype, we have here the full-length debut from St. Joe Louis. Those who have been keeping track know that 30,000 ft. High & Rising‘s release has been marred by personal and music business issues. But now, the proper freshman effort of Elete, Tommie Chase, and Michael Cardigan is here. Across the album’s 13 tracks, the trio deals with issues both positive and negative, along with, of course, a healthy dose of bravado. They’re not alone in telling their story either, as Skyzoo, Daniel Joseph, PH (formerly Pumpkinhead), and several others are featured on here.

You can download 30,000 ft. High & Rising after the jump and stream “Tell Em”, which features Skyzoo, below.

The Weekly Rundown (Sept 21-27)

rundown copy The Weekly Rundown (Sept 21 27)

Welcome to the weekly rundown where we (soulsupreme and Marty) provide you with our top ten headlines for the week that was.

  1. Goodie Mob reunion show. If this means the whole group is getting back together, we have to admit we’re a little excited to see what comes of this. But if it’s just a reunion show? Eh, it’s difficult to look forward to a one-off concert.
  2. VH1 Hip-hop honours Def Jam special. This year the event honoured 25 years at Def Jam, which included artists like Public Enemy, EPMD, Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, etc. Black Thought and Eminem honoured LL with a special performance of “Rock The Bells”. The VH1 special will air Oct.13th.
  3. Jay-Z: “Lets be clear, no one is scared of 50 Cent.” Honestly, it’s a moot point. Kanye West would never do that to 50 Cent to because Fiddy never wins any awards.
