Phil Ade – The Letterman [LP]

phil ade Phil Ade The Letterman [LP]I’ve been looking forward to this project ever since I checked the video for “The Letter”, which featured this Maryland-based MC going in on head-in-the-clouds rappers. But he did it in a way that didn’t sound cheap or phony, just honest. As such, I had to post Phil Ade’s The Letterman as soon as it dropped. And with features from Wale, Raekwon, Skillz, Raheem DeVaughn, and just a few others, it’s more than worth your time just to hear how Ade stacks up against his more established cohorts. Spoiler alert: He definitely does, and then some.

Le Da Soul FrontHere’s what looks like an insane (in a good way) tribute to my personal favorite group of all time – De La Soul. Mick Boogie & Terry Urban teamed up with a slew of artists (ranging from Tanya Morgan to Phife Dawg to 6th Sense to Camp Lo to Apple Juice Kid) for this project. I heard a leak the other day for Phife’s  “Peace Porridge” and I can tell you I was interested off that track alone. Download, enjoy, and give thanks to one of the greatest groups to ever do it as well as everyone involved on this mixtape. Hit the jump for the tracklist.

The Weekly Rundown (Sept. 14-21)

rundown copy The Weekly Rundown (Sept. 14 21)

Welcome to the weekly rundown where we (soulsupreme and Marty) provide you with our top ten headlines for the week that was.

  1. Kanye West at the VMA’s. Probably the most overblown news story of the year. There are bigger issues in the world. Blame it on the Hennessey and keep it moving.
  2. Pioneering DJ Grand Master Roc Raida passes away. Another hip-hop legend gone to soon in 2009. Roc Raida was battling complications from surgery. This weekend his condition worsened and he passed away. Busta Rhymes confirmed the news on Twitter. Our prayers are with his family.
  3. Benefit concert in Detroit for Hexmurda. We hope people come out and support the cause. And we hope Hex makes a full recovery really soon.
