Without a doubt, the biggest story this week was Miguel’s impromptu leg drop during his performance at the Billboard Music Awards. Of course, he didn’t mean to do it, but damn! Now when it comes to crazy, are-you-serious news, an arrest warrant was issued for Bronx rapper Tim Dog who reportedly died earlier this year. Yeah. It’s not quite as ridiculous, but apparently Kanye West is pushing Will Smith to release new music.

In more straight-up news, Action Bronson revealed that his Saab Stories project with Harry Fraud drops early next month, with the same going for Joey Bada$$’s Summer Knights EP. There’s some new Madlib on the way, too, along with a gang of Prefuse 73 collaborative projects. Oh, and hey, check out our guide to Kanye’s upcoming album, Yeezus.

Chuck Inglish | Droptops [EP]

It’s almost summer and Chuck Inglish knows exactly what he’s doing with his latest project. Droptops is certified summer music through and through, thanks in part to the minimalist, bass-heavy production. Guest features include Asher Roth, Buddy, and Da$h & Retch, all of whom are strong complements to Inglish’s mostly languid delivery. And even if you disagree, you need this for your ride.

Brian Fresco | Mafioso [Mixtape]

Mafioso is a new project from Chicago rapper Brian Fresco, who runs with the SaveMoney crew that features Joey Purp, Chance the Rapper, Vic Mensa, and others. Sure enough, they all show up on here, though Fresco mostly works to establish himself as a burgeoning talent. Even though there are a few filler cuts on here, this one’s definitely worth your time this weekend (and beyond).

Shigeto | Boiler Room Mix

Shigeto performed at a recent Boiler Room party and, like every set hosted by them, the entire thing has landed online. It’s 42 minutes of mostly danceable material, which Shigeto messes with here and there throughout with his MPC. I could see this one soundtracking your pre-nighttime shenanigans or being played when you’re winding down from whatever absurdity you’re getting into. Or just dance to it.

Ryan Hemsworth | Still Awake [EP]

Ryan Hemsworth loves you. Yes, you, you, and especially you. How do I know this? Because he released his latest project as a thank you to all his fans out there. I get the strong feeling he’ll only have more fans to show love to once Still Awake makes the rounds, because it only continues to show off his immense talents. I, for one, can’t wait to see him play the Hopscotch Music Festival in September.

The Jet Age of Tomorrow | The Jellyfish Mentality [Album]

The Jet Age of Tomorrow is the duo of Hal Williams and Matt Martians and they have a penchant for forward-thinking funk/R&B with a touch of soul and hip-hop. That’s especially evident on their third album, The Jellyfish Mentality, which they have been so kind to give away for free. This thing houses 21 (!) brand-new joints and collaborations with everyone from SBTRKT to Earl Sweatshirt to the Stepkids. Chyeah.

Ryan Hemsworth doesn’t waste time. Last week, he revealed that he had a new EP, Still Awake, on the way and, as promised, it’s already here. For free. Yeah, I wasn’t betting on getting this thing for the cost of a few mouse clicks, but I am most certainly glad that’s the case. Hemsworth’s rep is growing bigger every single day, and this is just another chance for new listeners to get acquainted with his fantastic sound. Seriously, dude’s the tops, and you should be listening to him. Right. Now.

Ryan Hemsworth Announces New EP, Streams Lead Single “Perfectly”

Before Ryan Hemsworth heads overseas for a European tour, he’s going to give the rest of the world some new music so we won’t be jealous. Next week marks the release of his latest EP, Still Awake, which is off to a great start with lead single, “Perfectly”. This track exemplifies everything we love about Hemsworth: choice sample flips, steady drums and bass, and a perfectly (lolz) set mood.

Never in a bajillion years did I think I’d be typing Backstreet Boys on a Potholes post, but Ryan Hemsworth has me doing exactly that. After a few teases and hints, he has dropped his Jersey-inspired bootleg/remix of one of BSB’s biggest hits, “Show Me The Meaning of Being Lonely”. Personally, I’m more of a NSYNC fan, meaning I won’t rip my hair out if a few of their songs play on the radio or during some mix. But thanks to this remix, the Boys might get their just due in my household … or not. Still, this is great and shouts to Hemsworth for the Amanda Please sample.

How about another Ryan Hemsworth remix on this Wednesday afternoon? Sure, we will take it. This time around, Hemsworth chops up the Outkast classic “Return of the ‘G’” in support of Pure Baking Soda‘s first magazine edition. I’m not entirely sure what the Aquemini cut has to do with this project, but we will just have to go along with it. Especially if it as tough as this dripping rendition of the southern hip-hop track. Last night’s episode of Diplo and Friends featured a special guest mix by one of our favorites here at Potholes, Ryan Hemsworth. He took over the airwaves with some jams by R. Kelly, Ghost Town DJ’s, Freddie Gibbs, and damn near everyone in between. There are, of course, plenty of well-executed blends and transitions in there, like when he builds from Ciara to Ghost Town DJ’s.

As we noted yesterday, MITSUDA is a new instrumental compilation hosted by Los Angeles’ Julian Wass that features a slew of producers paying tribute to the legendary video game music composer. Like-minded acts Friendzone, Ryan Hemsworth, Keyboard Kid, and ZachG, among others, appear on this pay-what-you-want release. For those unfamiliar, MITSUDA refers to Yasunori Mitsuda, who was behind the music for Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, and many other RPG classics.

As I understood it, Charlotte rapper Deniro Farrar was going to drop an EP the week of SXSW. And, sure enough, he did release something to kick off the Austin, Texas festivities. But this ain’t no EP; The Patriarch is essentially an album of all-new material. You’ll find the previously shared (and awesome) ”Fears” and “Kill Your Idol” along with collaborations with his usual killer cast of producers: Ryan Hemsworth, Keyboard Kid, and Potholes Music‘s own Black Noi$e and BK Beats.
