Black Milk – “Deadly Medley” F. Royce Da 5’9″ & Elzhi

Black Milk Black Milk Deadly Medley F. Royce Da 59 & ElzhiBlack Milk is back with his latest video “Deadly Medley” featuring Royce Da 5’9″ and Elzhi. They all sound good on this joint but I think Elzhi stands out lyrically; “I’m dying to test ya, no denying I’m applying the pressure, like the iron I rely on that lie in the dresser”. The three of them should start a group already. Black Milk’s forthcoming album, Album Of The Year, will be released on Sept. 14. Check out the new video and let us know what you think.

quake Quake I Stand Alone F. Royce Da 59 & Kayo Prod. Tone MasonHere is the third single off Quake‘s debut album, The Myth, which drops Aug. 31. “I Stand Alone” features Slaughterhouse emcee Royce da 5’9″ and frequent collaborator Kayo. The song was produced by Grammy-nominated trio Tone Mason, who are the majority producers on The Myth. This is my first time hearing Quake and it’s a pretty solid joint. I’m definitely interested in hearing the rest of the of the new album. Check this new joint and please let us know what you think.

The Weekly Rundown (Oct 12-19th)

rundown copy The Weekly Rundown (Oct 12 19th)

Welcome to the weekly rundown where we (soulsupreme and Marty) provide you with our top ten headlines for the week that was.

  1. The title-track from the upcoming Michael Jackson documentary: This Is It is released. It sounds like some vintage MJ. The track was originally recorded in the early ’90s and will be featured on a two-disc companion set.
  2. David Banner, 9th Wonder & Twista anti-violence awareness. After writing a column about hip-hop and violence in the urban community, it’s really good to see some activism in the wake of the recent death of Derrion Albert and increasing youth violence in Chicago. Hopefully this will encourage other community organizers to take positive steps against the violence.
  3. New Shafiq Husayn EPK, new album in stores. Shafiq talks about the bubbling music scene in Los Angeles and Stephen “Thundercat” Bruner, the bass player who on his new album we recently reviewed.

The Weekly Rundown (June 29 – July 6th)

rundown copy The Weekly Rundown (June 29 July 6th)

Welcome to the weekly rundown where we (soulsupreme and Marty) provide you with our top ten headlines for the week that was.

  1. VIBE Magazine ceases operations. After 16 years in business the urban music magazine has ceased operations. It’s not too surprising to anyone these days when a magazine or newspaper folds. But that doesn’t mean it’s still disappointing and a continuing sign of how shitty the industry has become.
  2. R.I.P. QB Steve McNair. In a very sad turn of events former Tennessee Quarterback  Steve McNair was killed yesterday in an apparent murder-suicide along with a young woman. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this time.
  3. Michael Jackson returns to the Billboard charts. After the tragic death of the music icon last week, his music sales have dominated billboard charts again. Sadly, death is one hell of a promotion tool.

Reyn: What’s up Black?
Black: What’s good, just chilling.

Reyn: Before we jump in, how about you just give us a brief explanation of the name Black Milk.
Black: Really, it’s just something I came up with man. It’s got no deep meaning behind it, it was something that just stands out to get peoples attention when they hear the name, or see the name somewhere, whether they like the name or not (Laughs.) And I know, once they heard the music, it didn’t matter what my name was.

Reyn: Tronic has been out for a little bit now, are you happy with the way people received it critically, commercially and musically?
Black: Everything has been great response, so I definitely can’t complain about that. I put a lot of work into the album in the short period of time that I had to make it. It’s good to see the people reacting with a positive feedback towards the album. I just want to continue to keep dropping jewels and timeless music. My music will last for a minute, which was my whole mindset for the album.
