Pyramid Murdock – Crowned Hest [Album]

The Nobody Really Knows crew, of which Potholes Music’s own Jay Cue is a member, just keeps on dropping that ill, forward-thinking music. Their tunes never cease to reside in one genre, as they hop from hip-hop to soul to jazz to funk to psychedelia without so much as a warning. And they do it seamlessly, which makes their output that much more engaging.

Case in point: Pyramid Murdock’s sprawling new project, Crowned Hest. The 10-track affair is presented as a single song, allowing the narrative to unfold. According to Murdock, it all “takes place in a small Malibu private party where miscellaneous plans meet action.” Sounds about right. Listen to and/or cop it below.

Pyramid Vritra – “Mids” & “100ft”

Genres? We don’t care about no fuckin’ genres! I imagine those thoughts run through the head of an artist like Pyramid Vritra, aka Hal Williams, whenever he decides to record a new track. To be fair, his cuts tend to be dreamy, synth-heavy works, like his two latest releases. That being said, “Mids” and “100ft” are worlds apart in their approach. The former is a tripped-out psych-pop romp while the latter is a mild club-ready jam. Oh, it’s FONKY, too. [via]

OK, the music gods have again blessed us today. Rapper-producer Pyramid Vritra teamed with Odd Future Talk to put together a compilation of previously unreleased tunes from his solo discography and his stuff as part of Jet Age of Tomorrow. Scopolomine features 10 tracks in total and the best part about this? You can hear a preview of his new album, Pyramid, by checking out “Drain”, which features Frisco aka Syd Tha Kyd. Yeah.

If the name Pyramid Vritra doesn’t grab you, then how about the Jet Age of Tomorrow, the Super 3, Odd Future, or NRK? Yeah? Well, good, because Vritra, aka Hal Williams, is part of all four of those acts. But he’s also doing it on his own and will make his proper debut Nov. 21 with a five-track album called The Story Of Marsha Lotus LP. Now, five tracks might seem short for a full-length LP, but that’s because dude’s made some lengthy compositions filled with multiple movements. The opening track, for example, is nearly 15 minutes long but plays like one seamless tune. If you like forward-thinking, jazzy hip-hop, you must.hear.this.now.
