9th Wonder 300x199 Download: 9th Wonder Presents: 9th Invented The Remix (AGAIN) [Mixtape]9th Wonder returns with his second installment of the 9th Invented the Remix (AGAIN). 9th Wonder released his original remix project was back in 2003 after the success of Little Brother’s The Listening. The new mixtape has some notable hip-hop and R&B remixes. Some of the highlights include Little Brother’s – “Not Enough (More)” (9th Wonder STILL Ain’t Enough Remix), Tweet’s – “Turn Da Lights Off” (9th Wonder Oh No You Didn’t Remix) which samples Teddy Pendergrass’ “Turn Off The Lights” remixed with 9th wonder’s drums. Some of the other R&B remixes were a bit underwhelming, but he did remix “Wordplay” by A Tribe Called Quest so there’s still a lot to like on here. Please let us know the what you think. Props to Eskay

Column: Music Is Supposed To Inspire, How Come We Ain’t Gettin’ No Higher?

Kanye West - The College Dropout Hip-hop has been around for nearly thirty years now. However, its still feels very young at its core. Whiles many emcees have graduated to have success some are just college dropouts with no plan for what’s next. In a genre of music that has no set rules it also seems to be void of maturity in the process. The idea of hip-hop and “growing up” feels like something of an oxymoron when you look at the current music landscape and its future. Very few emcees are willing to take that music past frivolous beefs/feuding, actually becoming successful as artists and making music that doesn’t compromise who they are. In hip-hop for some reason that feels unrealistic? Music is supposed to inspire, how come we ain’t getting no higher? © Lauryn Hill

Objektiv One Beer Pong Champion Cover 1024x1024 Download: Objektiv One Beer Pong Champion: White Boy Party Mash Ups [EP]I know what you are thinking, “here comes some more of that bro, mash up bullshit.” Well, to be completely honest, you are correct! Beer Pong Champion is a showcase of Objektiv One‘s lighter side, a 3-track mashup EP featuring Nas, Biggie and ASHER ROTH. Personally, I hate mashups. After listening to this, I still hate mashups. But I must admit, I did have one hell of a time dancing in my cargo shorts to this one, and you can too! So stop being a little pansy, give this a spin, and have some fun on a Tuesday for once…

The Weekly Rundown (Oct 5-12th)

rundown copy The Weekly Rundown (Oct 5 12th)

Welcome to the weekly rundown where we (soulsupreme and Marty) provide you with our top ten headlines for the week that was.

  1. Shyne to be released from prison and possibly deported. Lookout Diddy, Shyne is coming home. The real question is will he deported back to Belize or not.  I don’t like the way P. Diddy did Shyne with different lawyers © Nas
  2. The Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch feels ‘hopeful’ about cancer treatment. After a year full of deaths, we’re happy to report some good news from the Beastie Boys. We’re hoping for a speedy recovery.
  3. Jay-Z wins MTV’s Hottest MC of the year, Eminem not included on the top 10 list. MTV sucks, ’nuff said. Seriously, there’s nothing else to say about this without stooping to MTV’s level of shittiness.

Column: Do Whatever You Say Do But Black It Can’t Save You

Derrion Albert Shooting In ChicagoHistorically hip-hop has always brought attention to the social injustice. Whether it was Public Enemy with “911 Is A Joke” pointing out the disparity between emergency assistance in the inner city compared to white neighborhoods to Mos Def’s posse cut “One Four Love Pt. 1″ in response to police brutality in NYC in the wake of them killing unarmed African immigrant Amadou Diallo. The message has not been lost and hip-hop has covered it.

The Weekly Rundown (Sept 28 – Oct 5)

Welcome to the weekly rundown where we (soulsupreme and Marty) provide you with our top ten headlines for the week that was.

  1. R.I.P. Mr. Magic. Radio personality and hip-hop legend passed away this week from a heart attack.  He was instrumental on getting hip-hop mix-shows on the air in the early ’80s. He also indirectly had a part in the creation of “The Bridge Is Over” by BDP.
  2. Pharoahe Monch Leaves SRC, new album in the works for 2010. We think this is a good move for the Mighty one. Sure, he might get a lil’ more exposure via SRC, but probably not much. And we’re sure he can handle it on his own. We just want that damn album already.
  3. Common reunites with Kanye West and NO I.D. for new album. Only room to go up at this point after the disaster that was UMC. Hopefully getting back with NO I.D. will invigorate Common to not just mail in the verses.
