Lauryn Hill – “Repercussions”

lauryn hill Lauryn Hill – “Repercussions”In a recent interview with NPR, Lauryn Hill mentioned she might record again. Whether this is a new or an unreleased track, “Repercussions” sounds great. It is every bit as soulful as the music from her debut. Considering the eight-year-hiatus since she dropped the Unplugged double album, it’s good to have any new music by Ms. Hill at this point. Hopefully more music is on the horizon. Please give it a spin and let us know what you think. [via]

You can stream “Repercussions” below and download it after the jump.

Column: Music Is Supposed To Inspire, How Come We Ain’t Gettin’ No Higher?

Kanye West - The College Dropout Hip-hop has been around for nearly thirty years now. However, its still feels very young at its core. Whiles many emcees have graduated to have success some are just college dropouts with no plan for what’s next. In a genre of music that has no set rules it also seems to be void of maturity in the process. The idea of hip-hop and “growing up” feels like something of an oxymoron when you look at the current music landscape and its future. Very few emcees are willing to take that music past frivolous beefs/feuding, actually becoming successful as artists and making music that doesn’t compromise who they are. In hip-hop for some reason that feels unrealistic? Music is supposed to inspire, how come we ain’t getting no higher? © Lauryn Hill

Beer Pong Champion is a showcase of Objektiv One‘s lighter side, a 3-track mashup EP featuring Nas, Biggie and ASHER ROTH. Personally, I hate mashups. After listening to this, I still hate mashups. But I must admit, I did have one hell of a time dancing in my cargo shorts to this one, and you can too! So stop being a little pansy, give this a spin, and have some fun on a Tuesday for once…

Erykah BaduSexism has always been prevalent in this male dominated genre we call hip-hop. Granted we’ve always had female rappers. But most female rappers weren’t taken that seriously unless sex appeal was part of the overall image they we’re portraying.
