Rostam Batmanglij, Bethany Cosentino & Kid Cudi – “All Summer”

all summer Rostam Batmanglij, Bethany Cosentino & Kid Cudi All Summer
I’m not really a big fan of any of the acts involved in Converse’s latest experiment, but I have to admit that the end result is startlingly catchy. And I kind of hate myself for it. But you know what? Sometimes you have to let loose a lil’ bit. Also, I know Dave would be getting all sort of Internet-wood over this shit, anyway, so I figured I’d post it for you all to enjoy. The track, “All Summer”, features the collaborative work of Kid Cudi with Rostam Batmanglij, of Vampire Weekend, and Bethany Cosentino, of Best Coast. And, as I said, it’s too fetching for its own good, even though Cudi’s marbled-mouth monotone still kind of gets on my nerves.

The Weekly Rundown (Oct 12-19th)

rundown copy The Weekly Rundown (Oct 12 19th)

Welcome to the weekly rundown where we (soulsupreme and Marty) provide you with our top ten headlines for the week that was.

  1. The title-track from the upcoming Michael Jackson documentary: This Is It is released. It sounds like some vintage MJ. The track was originally recorded in the early ’90s and will be featured on a two-disc companion set.
  2. David Banner, 9th Wonder & Twista anti-violence awareness. After writing a column about hip-hop and violence in the urban community, it’s really good to see some activism in the wake of the recent death of Derrion Albert and increasing youth violence in Chicago. Hopefully this will encourage other community organizers to take positive steps against the violence.
  3. New Shafiq Husayn EPK, new album in stores. Shafiq talks about the bubbling music scene in Los Angeles and Stephen “Thundercat” Bruner, the bass player who on his new album we recently reviewed.

The Weekly Rundown (Sept 7-14)

rundown copy The Weekly Rundown (Sept 7 14)

Welcome to the weekly rundown where we (soulsupreme and Marty) provide you with our top ten headlines for the week that was.

  1. Phonte/Nicolay don’t want you to buy City Lights 2: Shibuya from iTunes. We shouldn’t be surprised since iTunes has pulled shit like this before. But it’s still a damn shame that they have messed up this release. Just make sure to hit up Amazon, Rhapsody, e-Music, etc… to pick this one up. I (Marty) have spun it a few times and it’s absolutely worth the money. And be on the look-out for a review this coming week.
  2. Jay-Z – Answer the Call concert @ MSG. Incredible concert for a worthy cause.  Jay-Z and a number of guest appearances from the likes of John Mayer, Mary J. Blige, Kanye West, Kid Cudi & Rihanna. They, put simply, rocked MSG for the 9/11  benefit concert.
  3. Raekwon OB4CL2 Release Party @ Santos, NYC. We wish we could have been there for the festivities. If the party was even one-tenth as good as the actual album, it was probably ridiculous. Peep the video and pretend you were lucky enough to attend.

Welcome To The Post Thug Era

DrakeThere was a time in hip-hop when record company A&R people told Kanye West that he should stick to producing. You don’t have street credibility. You’re not from the hood. You didn’t sell drugs, so what exactly is your image? How can we market you?
