We were definitely digging his most recent effort, An Album Called Life, which was produced entirely by L.A.-by-way-of-R.I. producer/DJ Mekalek. And we were more than happy to throw his “Take Me Home” track on the Ocean State Sampler. So we’d be hard-pressed to find a reason not to post the visuals for Jahpan’s “Better Than Before”. The Providence native and sometimes L.A. resident spits with his trademark raspy flow over a hand clap-laden beat from Mekalek that evokes imagery of hip-hop’s golden era. But not in a way that seems contrived or stuck. This is simply that good ol’ fashioned lyrical boom-bap. And, perhaps the best part of all, it’s complemented by a fresh video.
Check the visuals for “Better Than Before” after the jump.
