Intuition “ruined” two excellent tracks last week when he injected bars into Grizzly Bear’s “Two Weeks” and Mayer Hawthorne’s “Make Her Mine”. Well, the California-by-way-of-Alaska MC wasn’t done. This week, he’s revealed two more tracks of his I Ruined These Songs For You mixtape. The first features him spitting over The Black Keys’ “Psychotic Girl”, another dope-as-hell choice, and Portishead’s gorgeous “Humming” (excellent pick, again, Intuition). Get your mixtape on, people, and enjoy Intuition’s creative take on some of the best non-hip-hop tracks of the past 15 years. The full project drops March 23. Hit the jump for the track list.
Say hello to the first two leaks off Intuition’s upcoming side project dubbed I Ruined These Songs For You. This free mixtape brings it back to the day you would make actual cassettes for your friends or a girl who caught your eye. But instead of straight-up tracks, Intuition spits over portions of them with complementary lyrics that maintain the original song’s tone and story. There are no chopped samples or anything like that, just some great cuts from across the gamut — I’m talking from soul to indie rock — with this MC adding a lil’ flair. The first two leaks feature Intuition going in over Grizzly Bear’s fantastic “Two Weeks” and Mayer Hawthorne’s silky “Make Her Mine”. Enjoy and let us know your thoughts. And, of course, check back soon to get the full project.
“Future Ex-Wife” represents another leak off Intuition’s upcoming Girls Like Me album, which drops Jan. 26. As I have said in my previous posts on Intuition, his sophomore album only gets better after each listen. Of course, you can expect a full review on here so I won’t spoil anything with this post. Anyway, “Future Ex-Wife” is laced with a smooth hook from crooner Travis Brown and an equally silky beat. Personally, I’m a fan of the track ’cause I’m going through a similar type of emotion/mindstate described by Intuition and the track’s title. The second cut is Falside’s remix of Intuition’s already dope “Al Bundy”, another Girls Like Me cut. Fal adds equal amounts of shine and gloom to the track, which turns into something completely new. I’m not sure which version I dig more — the original or the remix — because, well, both are pretty slick.
But enough babbling, give these a spin and let us know your thoughts, per usual.
Here we are with another leak from Intuition. But this one is not off his upcoming mixtape, rather it’s off his sophomore LP Girls Like Me, which drops Jan. 26 and sounds better with every listen. That’s not a diss to Intuition either. It’s actually a compliment considering you will want to listen to his tracks more than once so you can digest his lyrics. “Hold Your Breath” also features songstress Raquel Rodriguez, who kills the hook and any other time she graces the microphone. Gotta love those stuttering organs on the beat, too.
Here is yet another leak from the homie Intuition, a California MC who has been gaining momentum recently after dropping a great debut a few years back with Stories About Nothing. “Don’t Try” is off his upcoming sophomore effort Girls Like Me, which is sounding excellent so far. And this refreshing track is a little different from what we’ve heard from Intuition before with its rock-driven tones and switched-up flow. Check it out and share your thoughts!
Here are two leaks off Intuition’s upcoming mixtape Girls Are Gonna Like Me, which is sounding great and dropping Dec. 21. The remix to “She Don’t Care” features Intuition, Dumbfounded and Nocando spitting over the instrumental for Lupe Fiasco’s “Paris Tokyo” — one of my favorite joints off The Cool. And the three MCs certainly do the original justice. The second leak is “Strut Bounce”, which Intuition said will also appear on his homie Cas One’s album. And it’s a laid-back joint with a bouncy, yet smooth rhythm. Intuition’s sophomore LP, Girls Like Me, drops Jan. 26.
Here are the visuals for Intution’s “Al Bundy” produced by Dibiase. Definitely feelin’ it, which comes as no surprise since I’ve been following Lee and enjoying his music since reviewing his fantastic debut, Stories About Nothing, for OKP.
I first heard about Intuition a few years ago when he dropped his fantastic debut, Stories About Nothing, which featured superb storytelling and witty punchlines. Since then, he remained slightly out of the underground eye except for the occasional free mp3 or video. But now, he’s back with fellow emcee VerBS with a collaborative EP Buzz, which features production from Alpha MC, Dibiase, Fud, Aspect 1, and Equalibrum, who produced most, if not all, of Stories About Nothing. Follow the jump for the full album artwork and tracklisting.
