So we all know that The Roots are capable of making some pretty sweet videos. In fact, it’s safe to say that they have some of the most classic videos in all of hip-hop (“What They Do” anyone?). Anyway, what you might not have known is that The Roots’ fans actually make some pretty kick-ass videos as well. Take the following, for example. Some fans of The Legendary Crew took it upon themselves to create an amazingly appealing video for “Now or Never” off of How I Got Over.

The visuals depict individuals from all walks of life, and more or less profiling how they get over. Check it out after the skip. [Props to OKP]

The Roots just released the third leak, “The Fire”, from their upcoming album, How I Got Over. It’s the second track off the album to feature crooner John Legend. The Roots first premiered this song during the the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics. This is another uptempo and inspiring track for their anticipated LP. While I’m not the biggest John Legend fan, he does very little to ruin this song for me. Black Thought sounds focused, and the instrumentation and production is superb. I can’t wait to see them on tour this month. The Roots also released the final track listing for the album which drops June 22, which you can check out below. We all heard what’s now being dubbed the lead single from How I Got Over last week in the smoky, downtrodden “Dear God 2.0“, which heavily samples the track “Dear God” by Jim James and Monsters of Folk. And I think it’s safe to say almost everyone that’s heard it has loved it and praised the hell out of the track either on their own blog or in some site’s comments section. Well, I think the Roots and their OkayPlayer (props to Shamz) brand were thinking it might be smart to continue the winning streak with another leak.  “Doin It Again” hit the ‘net today and it features a re-appropriation of John Legend’s “Again”, akin to how the aforementioned “Dear God 2.0″.

While I’m absolutely in love with this track — I truthfully don’t give a shit if Black Thought rehashed his BET Awards cypher freestyle — I am finding it slightly odd how much more frequently the Roots are essentially remixing tracks and reworking the title or adding “2.0.” This isn’t some kind of foolish hatred either, as I clearly stated I’m a fan of “Doin It Again” and a giant fan of the Legendary in general. Personally, I find it interesting how they are essentially remixing a track but also, in a way, sampling it in the traditional hip-hop sense. But I’m really curious as to what our readers think about this. Hit the skip to download the track.

June 22nd. This is the date we are all waiting on. A date that could make or break hip-hop in 2010. Let’s be honest, this year has seen nothing but duds. Sure you can make an argument for a few releases, but good luck trying to convince me. Back to that date. Yes, I am talking about the release of The Roots upcoming album, How I Got Over. Featuring collaborations with artists like Phonte, The Dirty Projectors, Joanna Newsom, Blu, and much more, my hopes are set at an unprecedented level. So high, in fact, that if I had to invest all my money in a portfolio of musical stocks, I would say screw diversification and put it all into How I Got Over.

With that said, I present to you The Roots’ lead single (I guess it wasn’t the title track), “Dear God 2.0″. I am not sure why they decided to drop this song first, but I don’t hold it against them for a second. While it doesn’t get me hyped like some of their past singles (see Seed 2.0), it gets me excited in a very different way. Featuring Jim James and Monsters of Folk, this track truly embodies a musical progression I have yet to hear from The Roots, and that is saying a lot.
