I know, I know. If you’re anything like me, you can probably feel your insides melting right about now, sending a euphoric wave of soul sweeping through your body all the way to your fingertips. After all, this is neo-soul at its finest. The impossibly smooth blend of jazz and soul. The kiss of hip-hop sensibilities that grace the raw – yet rich – production. These albums made even the hardest hip-hop heads drops their b-boy posturing, if only for a moment. These albums have also yet to be duplicated in terms of overall sound and composition.
Once again, Boston’s own Madness2012 is back at it, bringing many of Boston’s finest underground hip-hop acts together for another massive hip-hop party/showcase. This time around, the show was in the honor of Taj’s (better known as Jipeto) birthday.
The Boston based duo, Defcon, has been steadily making a name for itself throughout the underground hip-hop scene in New England. After dropping a successful self-titled debut album, the duo consisting of Subtex and Jipeto is poised to release its sophomore album, The Lost Generation. In preparation for the release of the upcoming album, Defcon dropped this video for the single “How You Feelin.” The vibe is raw and a bit of a throwback, but with Subtex and Reks delivering some nasty rhymes, you can’t go wrong.
Remember what was happening across the world ten years ago? People were losing their minds, wondering what was going to come from the ominous Y2K bug. However, while all the old farts were shaking in their boots waiting for the clocks to strike midnight, something 100x cooler was happening – in music! Looking back at all the fantastic hip-hop that has come out in this past decade, I was struck by how many of my favorite albums were released in 2000.
