Just received the latest video from Miguel Atwood-Ferguson Ensemble featuring LA based and Brainfeeder artist, Flying Lotus. Alongside the all-star cast of musicians, they do their rendition of “Drips” from Flying Lotus’s recently released album Cosmogramma and “Take Notice,” an arrangement of a J Dilla original from his Ruff Draft EP. You might be familiar with this arrangement of “Take Notice” from Mochilla’s “Timeless” DVD Box Set, specifically from the Suite for Ma Dukes portion. If you haven’t ordered the Timeless DVD box set featuring Suite for Ma Dukes its a definitely a worthy purchase.

Look. I wasn’t too impressed with the first Madlib Medicine Show. You know, the one where ‘Lib essentially remixed Guilty Simpson’s Ode to the Ghetto while adding a few new tracks and a bunch of radio-themed interludes. I know what the blunted producer was going for, but it seemed to get lost in the fluff. Beyond that, though, there was the fact that I felt Oh No had already done a much better job tackling Simpson’s gun-toting bravado with Ghettodes. The only problem with that project was the fact that it never saw a proper releases outside of scattered leaks from Stones Throw. But that all changes now, because, well, who loves you more than Stones Throw, apparently.

Apparently this banger of a track was meant to be a single promoting Bumps’ self-titled debut, which dropped three years ago on Stones Throw. But for whatever reason, “Drums” wasn’t pushed as a single and, unless I’m missing something, wasn’t on the album either. Stones Throw recognized that the world needed to hear this track, though, and just threw it online for free download along with a killer remix by Koushik. I love the straight-up, yet insanely off-base percussion on here, particularly the dusty sounding live kit. You can stream the original and remix below and then download them after the jump.

This track won’t appear on OJ Simpson or Madlib Medicine Show No. 1, but Stones Throw felt like giving it away anyway. “Before the Verdict” features Madlib’s trademark blunted production and some nice bars from Guilty Simpson. But it’s sloppy, particularly that “hook,” if you can call it that. It’s a little too raw, unfortunately, though it’s free and certainly worth checking out. Let us know your thoughts!
