lookingback 2010 so far Looking Back: The Top 25 Albums of 2010 Thus Far

We know how you all love lists, so here is one to hold you over until we throw together our top albums at the end of the year. While our year-end list will include a full summary on each album, we thought that this would suffice for any of you that might have slept on some of 2010′s first half bests. Check out the list, preview the singles, support the artists, and let us know how much you agree/disagree in the comments section below!

Four Tet – “Angel Echoes” (Caribou Remix)

Caribou Four Tet Angel Echoes (Caribou Remix)

Between Caribou and Four Tet, we have two of the strongest electronic albums in all of 2010. The two have seemingly both involved their music to a more club-appealing sound, a pretty considerable shift of gears for both from past work. This remix here features Caribou chopping up Four Tet’s subtle “Angel Echoes”, which is the lead track on their latest album There Is Love In You, into a epic club-friendly journey. While I wouldn’t call either of these artists hip-hop, I definitely think that many producers can take note of the progressive sound that these two acts bring to the table. Keeping true to that electronic sound, they are able to push the envelope and take risks. While I really hate to compare genres, I wish that hip-hop artists would get off their “staying true to their roots” mindset a little bit and make some innovative music like we see here. Take a listen and share some thoughts. [via]

The Acorn – “Restoration” (Four Tet Remix)

Four Tet The Acorn Restoration (Four Tet Remix)

The Acorn’s most recent album No Ghost, is packed with infectious folk and laidback melodies. Four Tet took note of this and broke down their recent single, “Restoration”, built it back up and made it his own. I must also note that Four Tet recently released an album called There Is Love In You, which is an absolutely spectacular change of pace for the instrumental artist. On this particular remix, we do get to hear some of Four Tet’s signature elements, but he also plays with some skills we haven’t seen much of in his past work. Check it out and enjoy your weekend!
