Falside – “Jesus Shaves”

Falside Falside Jesus ShavesYou have probably heard the beat tape by now, but if you haven’t (and shame on you), just go here and download the damn thing. If you have, we can move along here. Providence, R.I.-based producer just shot over some visuals for the title track off his Jesus Shaves project that displayed just how much this youngster has grown over only the past year or so. The video itself features what looks like a local ragamuffin followed by footage of Fal in his home studio surrounded by records, cigarettes, booze, and coffee. I can definitely get down with three of those. And props to anyone who recognizes the band sampled on here.

Falside – Jesus Shaves [Beat Tape]

Falside Falside Jesus Shaves [Beat Tape]We provided a teaser of this Potholes regular’s latest project a few months ago with the track “Chocolate Box”. And now, we have the full download for Falside’s Jesus Shaves beat tape, which is a step in another direction for the young Providence, R.I.-based producer. He’s experimenting much more on here, though still clearly a student of the boom-bap game. But he has moved beyond mere samples and loops to create some spacey, otherworldly production that shows progression and maturity. And you hear that right out of the gate with the rock-driven “My F*cking Records”, a wild amalgam of sounds and styles.

Hit the skip to download Jesus Shaves. You can stream a track, “Chocolate Box”, below.

I Feel Like Other Rappers Hate Me: An Interview with H.W.

HW I Feel Like Other Rappers Hate Me: An Interview with H.W.

H.W. might be a relatively new name to many of you readers out there. We posted his album A Year’s Worth of Worry for free download when it dropped a few months back. Since then, H.W. has been making some noise around the New England scene, but the truth is, he is a true underground veteran. Sure there are some bigger names around, but what is hip-hop culture without its hidden underground culture?

Though he may not be the most optimistic emcee around, H.W. has some interesting insights and perspectives on hip-hop that are not always shared. Hit the skip to check out H.W.’s thoughts on the New England hip-hop scene, being depressed, and leaving college to become a rapper.

Producer Falside has been gaining some serious traction lately. And it’s about time because he’s been steadily lacing some of underground hip-hop’s finest emcees with outrageous beats for a few years now. The Rhode Island producer comes correct with his latest beat tape, Jesus Shaves, which will be available for free download this June. I couldn’t help but post this track because the beat, “Chocolate Box”, is beyond dope. Hit the skip for some serious ear candy.

reason i dont want to build 300x300 Download: Reason I Dont Want to Build [mp3]With his album dropping this coming Tuesday, Reason has unleashed another leak from his very good Landlords & Lullabies. We previously got a taste of “Paid Bills“, which you probably heard on the Ocean State Sampler. But this time, it’s “I Don’t Want to Build”, another Falside-produced joint featuring a little help from Dirty Hank. It’s a scathing look at the MySpace/’net-era of hip-hop that Reason clearly is not the biggest fan of. And it makes the wait until Tuesday that much more difficult, though if you’re in that boat you should probably pre-order the damn album already. Do so by going here and receiving a ton of free goodies.
