Black Sheep – “Party Tonight” f. Jean Grae

Black Sheep Black Sheep Party Tonight f. Jean Grae

The previous leak, “Birds of a Feather”, from Black Sheep’s upcoming From the Black Pool of Genius is likely to be the best track on that entire record. I mean, you gather up Dave, Q-Tip, and Mike G on any record and it’s going to be something special. But it reached greater heights thanks to the four MCs delivering on the track over a killer beat from Tough Junkie. This latest Black Sheep joint doesn’t go as hard as that one, but “Party Tonight” is certainly another solid cut from what’s sounding like a pretty damn good album. On here, Dres is joined by the almost always-on Jean Grae for a slightly subdued love-centric cut that takes a different look at the dynamics of a relationship. Dig it.

Black Sheep – “Birds of a Feather” f. Q-Tip, Dave & Mike Gee

Holy Native Tongues reunion, Batman! Not only is this a fresh grouping of some of hip-hop’s living legends, but “Birds of a Feather” has to be one of the better singles to drop this year. All four cats on here — Dres, Q-Tip, Dave and Mike Gee — absolutely kill it over this beat, which, I may add, is stellar as well. I wasn’t sure what to expect when Dres took the Black Sheep name and announced he would be releasing new projects. But so far, all we have heard from him, such as “Forever LuvLee”,  has been golden. As for “Birds of a Feather”, you have to love and appreciate it when MCs with more than 20 years in the game join forces to drop a track that’s both inspirational and progressive. Props to all four on here and here’s hoping the rest of Black Sheep’s From the Black Pool of Genius is at this track’s level.
