I was told I wasn’t suppose to leak this… OH BABY!

After weeks of speculation, we finally get our hands on the highly anticipated collaboration between Dr. Dre and Jay-Z off of the upcoming Detox album. I still don’t think this album is ever going to see the light of day, but it is absolutely wonderful to get a track like this to bump in the whip. Who knows when we will receive another leak, so be sure to cherish this one to the fullest. But that’s enough from me, check out the track and decide for yourself if it makes the cut!

SUCKERS!

Column: Confessions of a Detox Apologist

Dr. Dre Column: Confessions of a Detox ApologistAs the news came out last week that Dr. Dre’s long-awaited album Detox was pushed back yet again, this time to 2011, hip-hop fans, myself included, experienced a few emotions.  The weary, brave-hearted Detox apologists said, “Oh well, we can wait. We’ve waited this long, it will be worth it.  Everyone who has worked on it said it’s going to change the game!”  The smug, arrogant brand of hip-hop lover who never really listens to Dr. Dre anyway looked down their collective noses through their oversized non-prescription glasses and said, “Ha! We knew it would never come out! And even if it does, it’s going to suck anyway!”

The Weekly Rundown (May 25th – June 1st)

rundown copy The Weekly Rundown (May 25th June 1st)

Welcome to the weekly rundown where we (soulsupreme and Marty) provide you with our top ten headlines for the week that was.

  1. DJ Houseshoes gets his laptop stolen. It’s a pretty sad story because there were a bunch of J Dilla rarities on that laptop. Hopefully he backed up all the music that was stolen.
  2. NBA Playoffs: Lakers/Orlando are in the NBA finals. Nike and David Stern are happy there will be some star power at the NBA Finals. Sorry, LeBron, maybe next year.
  3. Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 will be auto-tune free. Kanye calls it the anti-autotune album and that sounds very good to us.

Discussion Poll: Most Overrated Hip-Hop Albums

Discussion image

As much as we have classic albums, we have overrated hip-hop albums. The word overrated is defined as; thinking something is better, stronger and more valuable than it really is. I wanted to include Illmatic in the choices but I feel like that album has way too much significance to be called overrated. However, people do bring it up to the point of annoying so its debatable. Which album do you think is the most overrated?

Keeping It Real?

Rick RossOutside of actual rapping, keeping it real in hip-hop has always been the hardest thing an emcee can do. Life imitating art or art imitating life? It’s controversial to say the least. The idea that the character a rapper portrays should mirror who they are in real life.
