rundown copy The Weekly Rundown (Aug. 17 24th)

Welcome to the weekly rundown where we (soulsupreme and Marty) provide you with our top ten headlines for the week that was.

  1. Jay-Z releases Blueprint 3 final track listing. With so much fanfare, we sure hope it’s a good album. Promotion is bordering on overkill at this point.
  2. DJ Scratch versus DJ Premier in the park. Hip-hop outdoors in the park with two legends on the turntables. It doesn’t get any better than that.
  3. Peter Bjorn and John “rapper feature” remix mixtape. Another remix project? While the lineup looks nice and PB&J are some talented cats, we would prefer some original material from everyone involved instead. That doesn’t mean we won’t give this a spin, though. Read the rest of this entry »

rundown copy The Weekly Rundown: April 6 13th

Welcome to the weekly rundown where we (soulsupreme and marty) provide you with our top ten headlines for the week that was.

  1. South Park pulls the ultimate joke on Kanye West. The “fishsticks” joke on South Park is the funniest thing we’ve seen on South Park in a while. Kanye West your fashion choices have defeated you! Damn homie, heavy hitter or switch hitter? lmao!
  2. Mos Def Challenges Lil Wayne & Jay Z to a rap battle. A video rant surfaced this week from Spring 2008. A drunken Mos Def somewhere in Detroit challenges Lil Wayne & Jay Z to a rap battle; “Put your money up I’ll take the money!” Can we pay-per-view that shit?
  3. Eminem releases new video for ‘We Made You’. In true Eminen fashion, the video takes potshots at all celebrities. The video is hilarious, but the song is forgettable. How many times have we heard this song already? Read the rest of this entry »

Busta Rhymes pic 3Busta Rhymes is the one of the most incredible live performers hip-hop has ever has seen. He’s had a career that spanned the golden era, the native tongues movement, and the Jiggy era of the late 90’s all the way to present day. For all the success he’s enjoyed, his music is somewhat comical by definition now. Busta had his own style, animated lyrics and concepts when he first came out. However, if you look at his output in the last six years or so he resembles an artist willing to conform to trends to remain relevant. The song features with T-Pain, Lil Wayne and Ron Browz aren’t really adding anything to an already auto-tune friendly landscape. Don’t get me started on DJ Khaled! Read the rest of this entry »
