I am in complete shock this morning. Why am I posting this flawless album for free? It was only a week ago that I had received the promotional copy of Where Is Danny?, and now they decide to drop it for free? For FREE!?!?! I am telling you, this is the BEST album of 2009, point blank. I don’t know the full scoop, but I feel like this seriously devalues one of hip-hop’s true gems. It looks like enough was enough as far as delays go, and they decided to just drop the thing. At least everyone will be able to hear this masterpiece. Hit Danny and Alex Goose on twitter to thank them for putting this together, that’s an order.
UPDATE: The album is being released for free since IMEEM and other writers decided to leak the album without permission. There will be a reworked retail version available on Definitive Jux shortly. Be SURE to support that when it comes around, these guys deserve it.
Where Is Danny? is finally upon us. Soon enough you will be able to support the best album of 2009, courtesy of Definitive Jux. That’s right, the BEST of 2009. This leak right here, which is produced by Alex Goose, is just one of 26 other tracks that will make your head explode. I’m sorry, it is just very rare that I get this excited about music anymore. Nothing against the other artists out there, but this is something we can all learn from. Be different, be yourself! That is all…
We have been following the leak campaign for the release of Danny’s Def Jux debut for some time now, and here comes another one! This joint is called, “Scrambled Eggs”, and it features some hysterical wordplay from Danny, something have become very used to lately. Let’s hope that we get our hands on this LP one way or another, all the leaks have proved that this is definitely some coppable music. Check it out and share some thoughts after the skip…
Hail Mary Mallon, a super-group consisting of Aesop Rock, Rob Sonic and DJ Big Wiz, dropped this video last week for their single, “D-Up”. Marty put me onto it today and I instantly fell in love. Words can’t even describe what is going on in production, so you are just going to have to press play and find out for yourself. After hearing this, my anticipation for a full-length project from Hail Marry Mallon has grown to a very high level, and I am sure you will agree with me on that. “D-Up” is featured on the Def Jux IV compilation, available now. Major props to the directors, Alexander Tarrant and Justin Metros.
Check it out as we double the Definitive Jux fun for you today, hitting you with one joint from Despot featuring production from Ratatat, and one from the the wonderful Danny Swain. It’s nice to see one of the dopest indie labels in all of music hit us with some big moves here, upping the ante for competitive companies like Rhymesayers who have been absolutely killing it in 2009. It’s also nice to see Ratatat getting down with more hip-hop acts, we know they have the capability of producing some real bangers. We also hit you with Part 1 of “Sloppy Joe” from Danny last week, so here is Part 2 for you to get jiggy with. And as an added bonus, hit the skip to check out the video from the new Def Jux signee, Chin Chin, and their song, “That’s Where I’ll Be”. I actually checked these guys out live last week in Prospect Park, definitely a band you should be checking for in the months to come!
According to sources, Who Is Danny?, Danny’s Def Jux release, will be dropping sometime later this month. I still don’t have an official release date so I can’t confirm this, but definitely something that will remain on the Potholes radar as we approach month’s end. We had dropped “Manic At the Disco“, a bit of a curveball compared to some of the stuff we are used to from Danny. “Sloppy Joe” is a bit of a softer track compared to the first leak, allowing you to see the contrasting sounds that we might be able to expect from Who Is Danny? Stay tuned as we receive more news. For now, check out the track!
The Boston leg of Chali 2na’s Fish Outta Water Tour was a surprise success with some fantastic moments popping up unexpectedly. The first opener on stage was a Brooklyn cat named Prophecy. Really not a whole lot to say about him other than he held it down well (especially for a very young emcee) and for a first opening act, he actually managed to up the overall energy in the Middle East basement, which was a great sign. The next act was a group of 4 Boston-natives called Ear Force (or The Ear Force Crew). This was where I personally was subjected to a live-concert “first.” Read the rest of this entry »
After posting (and praising) the Jet Audio track featuring Danny!, and others, last night, the South Carolina emcee/producer hit us up with a new track from his upcoming Def Jux release, Where Is Danny?. And if this joint “Manic At The Disco”, a mix of psychedelia and shit-talking, is any indication, then that record is going to be a must-cop when it drops this month.
Personally, I’m digging the erratic rock sample that wavers around and the vibrant, sometimes-schizo drums. As for his rapping on here, Danny! sounds inspired as he spits with a sarcastic chip on his shoulder, though it’s always been there. As usual, take a listen and let us know what you think.
