Danny! has been hard at work on his next move on our imprint, Potholes Music. And rather than keep his fans waiting, he just sent over this “Human Nature”-flipping new banger. “Gypsy Mistress” is but a mere preview of what’s to come from the Georgia-residing producer. For one, did you know dude’s got a producer credit on French Montana’s debut album? True story. His music’s also in that new Crown Royal commercial. Chyeah.

Over the past six months or so, we’ve brought you the rereleases of Danny!‘s Dream series of instrumental albums. But moving forward, it’s all new material from the Atlanta-based artist. Like “First Come Last Serve”, the piano-laced joint he just sent over to us that has some serious drums. Those of you following his antics on Tumblr might recognize this quick lil’ number, but even so, you weren’t able to download it.

Just being honest, Wale‘s recently released Folarin mixtape was mediocre at best. Unlike prior efforts on the mixtape circuit, this one lacked any cohesiveness, leading us to believe it was a place holder until the next major label album. Of course, Wale does have his moments, especially under choice production from Danny Swain. In fact, the beat used for this song can be found on the recently released Potholes Music album Dream, Extinguished. The video fits the nostalgic boom-bap jam quite well, and we are happy it was chosen to get the visual treatment. Folarin is out now, as well as Dream, Extinguished.

Danny! Releases ‘Dream, Extinguished’ On Potholes Music

We are very excited to bring you the third and final entry in Danny!‘s instrumental Dream series. While its predecessors were straight-up rereleases, this edition of Dream, Extinguished has never actually seen the light of day. It’s the European version and it features a slew of cuts from the multi-talented artist that you have never heard before.

Some of the beats will sound familiar to those following Danny!’s acclaimed career. “Sparkle the Nana Song” was picked up by Danny Brown for use on The Hybrid while “Jet Society” and “Easy, Breezy, Beautiful” were retooled for use on Danny!’s brilliant And I Love H.E.R. album. Also, Wale snagged the “Never Say Never” for use on his recently released Folarin mixtape. Otherwise, only the most diehard of fans will be familiar with select tracks on Dream, Extinguished, making this an absolute must-have for his fans.

Below, you can stream the album. In the coming months, we will release the original instrumentals Danny! produced for Payback, which is out now on OkayPlayer Records, along with a completely new project. Stay tuned.

Danny! Launches Remix Contest With Okayplayer, Hypetrak and SONOS

Given the love he’s received lately for Payback, Danny! felt it was time to give back. As such, he teamed up with his label, Okayplayer Records, along with Hypetrak and SONOS to present a new contest. He’s asking any and all producers out there to try their hand at remixing “Myintrotoletuknow” and have their way with it.

Here’s everything you need:

The tempo is 150 BPM (or 75 BPM, depending on your setup)
After you’re done, email the track (must be 320-kbps MP3) to okayplayerremixcontest@gmail.com

Danny! – “Keep Your Head To The Sky” (Okayplayer Remix)

It was a pretty great year for Danny!, as he saw the release of Payback on Okayplayer Records and an appearance on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. To keep things moving, Mr. Swain thanks his fans by dropping a self-produced remix of Payback cut, “Keep Your Head To The Sky”. This remix comes at a pretty perfect time, too, as Danny plans on launching a remix contest in conjunction with Okayplayer and Hypebeast later this week. That is sure to set the pace for a rather fruitful 2013, which will also feature Danny! releases on Potholes Music. Stay tuned for more information on that.

iLLmont – “Pikeys” F. Danny! [Video]

The Atlanta collective known as iLLmont has a new single “Pikeys”, and decided to enlist local MC Danny! to lay down a verse. Olde English and Brotha IB of iLLmont lace this incredibly jazzy beat with some old-school flow, and Danny! plays anchor with a rather playful verse of his own. The accompanying video for this particular single is straight forward, but it does the trick for this easy leaner. “Pikeys” is one of 24 cuts from the recently released Shawty album, which is sure to have something for just about everyone out there.

Okayplayer Records MC/Potholes Music producer Danny!‘s superb new album, Payback, gets a well deserved push today thanks to the folks over at Stereogum, who just premiered “Myintrotoletuknow”. The Timbaland-referencing joint serves as an audio-autobiography for the Atlanta-based rapper-producer, who’s been through a lot over the past few years.

But hey, it’s all positivity right now for Mr. Swain, who has some more new music coming soon. We have the third Dream release on the way along with the original instrumentals used on the first version of Payback. Yeah, shit’s gettin’ serious, y’all.

iLLmont – Shawty [Album]

If you copped Danny!’s great new album, Payback, then chances are you heard Atlanta collective iLLmont strut their stuff on the title track. Their collaboration with the talented rapper-producer didn’t end there, however, as Danny! contributed several beats and verses (!) to the crew’s new Shawty LP. His Potholes Music cohort Javis FauX appears, too, most notably providing the beat for rad bonus track “Old Spice“. Additionally, you’ll hear previous leaks “285” and “Boogie“, which fit in perfectly on the party/drivin’-ready Shawty. Download/stream it below for free.

Danny! – “Misunderstood” F. Lil B & Blu

I am not sure what the most exciting part about the leak of “Misunderstood” is, to be honest. Sure, it is another awesome Danny! song, but it sports a killer beat and guest verses from Lil B and Blu. The production is silky smooth, as Lil B sets the up-tempo tone for Swain and Blu to follow suit. Danny sent us an original version of Payback nearly a year ago, which never quite saw the light of day.

Since signing to Okayplayer, the entire album is totally revamped and stripped of any excess. Trust me, it is beautiful, and totally worth a purchase. Payback will serve as a fantastic introduction for some to the world of Swain–and just another chapter of fine music for the many of us who have been sticking around since day one.
