LA Weekly’s Jeff Weiss sits down with L.A.’s “Ambassador of Boogie Funk,” Dam-Funk. The Stones Throw signed selector recently released his five-LP (two-CD) debut, Toeachhizown, jam packed with two hours of the hardest hitting space boogie funk this side of the universe.
In this interview Dam-Funk talks about what inspires him as an artist, his favorite records, and why he wanted to add a different flavor to his live performances. The video was shot, edited, and produced by Jessica Rew and features clips from an electrifying performance by Dam-Funk at the Cinespace in Hollywood.
Stones Throw’er Dam-Funk has been releasing some crazy music over the past few months as part of his Toeachizown series. This joint right here is off Sky, which is the last installment in the five-volume series. And, per the ST site, Dam says this track is one of his “signature compositions in regards to sound, style, arrangement, drums, vocals, & keyboard playing.” Check it out for yourself and let us know what ya think.
It’s a slow-ass Monday today, but at least we got some funky freshness from FS to brighten the mood. Kenny’s always posting the good stuff over there and we wanted to share it with those who might not wander to his site just yet. This is a mixture of the Hawthorne Headhunters (Black Spade, Proh Mic, and Ced No) and Stones Throw’s Dam-Funk. They have combined for a dope little number full of great bass, sparkling synthesizers, and handclap-driven, hi-hat heavy percussion. Grab the track and, of course, let us know what you think.
